Traveled all the way to Minneapolis from Fargo to have my surgery. It was a great experience overall from the clinic to the surgery and the after surgery care at the U.

Dr. Stefan Kim and the care I received at the University hospital were second to none.

This is my experience with Dr Kim at the University of Minnesota. I sat in the waiting area in his clinic with 3 other patients and we started talking. We realized all of us had had spine fusion surgeries by other local surgeons and suffered terrible results. We couldn’t believe all of us came to see Dr Kim as a last resort and we all had to have more extensive surgeries by Dr. Kim to fix us. Amazingly all 4 of us were doing great and singing praises for him and his team. I was operated by this woman neurosurgeon at the Minneapolis VA who did Thoracic 11 to Sacral 1 /2 ?fusion. Pain after my surgery was so bad and I had to go see another local surgeon because she apparently does not see her patients after surgery. Well, 6 of my bottom screws had loosened and so my 2nd surgeon decided to remove them. My pain got even worse and I couldn’t even sit straight or stand. For 8 months, I literally had to live lying down in the bed or in a recliner because I couldn’t find a surgeon… who would take my case. Finally, I was referred to Dr Kim and he had take everything out and do the surgery all over again. It took me 6 months to rehab my weak legs but I am now totally pain-free and walking again. I am so grateful for Dr Kim and his team.

As a result of Dr Kim’s misdiagnosis I spent 4 years in a wheelchair. A local Neurologist gave me a tentative diagnosis of NPH but sent me to Dr Kim for a second opinion. Dr Kim said it definitely was not NPH. I went to several other doctors who could not find the cause of my problem. Things kept getting worse. Finally I was sent to see Dr. Klinge at Rhode Island Hospital. Her specialty is NPH. She did a new spinal tap and confirmed that it was NPH. A week later she installed a shunt. I am now walking again.

After surgery care is horrible his nurse Maas will not call you back and when they do they tell you to go to the emergency room they left stitches in me after they took them out the pain is so bad I can’t wear clothing can barley walk eat all my blood levels are high and they tell me well go to the emergency room horrible do your research before doing surgery with this team

Saw Dr. Kim for a second opinion but wasn't too thrilled with his advice which was a much more extensive than what the first surgeon told me regarding my scoliosis. I am kicking myself for not listening to him The surgery that I had with the first guy was a disaster and so I went back to see Dr. Kim. He was gracious enough to explain things all over as to why I needed the bigger surgery. As luck would have it, he is leaving his practice for Africa for good to be a missionary surgeon. I didn't know people still do that stuff. But, he referred to another scoliosis surgeon in Boston. He shared with me his Christian faith and his "calling". Very caring and kindhearted man.

Dr. Kim and his staff were second to none. I am amazed at how well I am doing since my surgery. But can't say the same thing about Lahey clinic. The hospital overall was mediocre at best. If it weren't for Dr. Kim, I would have gone elsewhere.

I thank God everyday that I found Dr. Kim. I was pretty naïve to think that surgeons were all competent because they are board-certified. Boy, was I wrong! I learned the hard way. Who does your surgery can literally change your life for the better (or worse in my case). I had to have a second surgery by Dr. Kim as my first one didn't go too well but now I can look back and say I am so glad I went through with it. He and his staff were simply amazing. They have been more than kind and patient. Unlike my first surgeon, Dr. Kim actually took time to listen to me (imagine that!) and laid out my options. I just had my one year follow up and he said everything had healed beautifully. I feel like my old self again. What a difference one surgeon can make.

I was considered a high risk patient with multiple problems ( herniated disks, stenosis, and forward curvature of my cervical spine). Dr. Kim was "over the top" in every aspect of my care. I have been going to Lahey Clinic for 25 years and, while I've always considered it to be one of the best hospitals around, I had never received such wonderful and attentive care as I did with Dr. Kim and his staff. I felt like I had made a new, real friend under his care. I cannot recommend him highly enough as a surgeon and a human being. If you choose to use his services, it will be the best decision you could ever make and you'll enjoy truly personal care from of the highest rated surgeons in his field.
