Dr. Stella Victoria Yu, MD

Dr. Yu was recommended to me by a nurse practitioner whose primary care manager is in the same practice as Dr. Yu, so I was hopeful that I'd found a good internist. Nearly two years later, all I can imagine is that said nurse practitioner formulated her opinion upon supposition rather than personal experience. My own series of thoroughly unsatisfactory experiences with Dr. Yu began with the fact that there's no continuity from one visit to the next (no follow-up): she is unprepared, apparently doesn't read my chart, and doesn't listen to what I have to say - or if she does, she has chosen not to believe me. In addition, very nearly every routine test she has ordered has been at an inappropriate interval: for instance, blood work and a "well woman" exam three months after the previous one; several other vital tests more than a year after they were supposed to have been performed (I had to "remind" her - and then she argued with me about how recently they'd been done: yet another… instance of her not reading what was in my records!). Same issue with vaccinations. In her defense, she HAD been gravely ill (cancer and chemo); and she is a nice person. Because of those factors, I tried to make allowances. In the end, however, it's all about how well a physician manages her patients' health - and in my case, that management was unbelievably poor.

I became a patient of Dr. Yu's over 5 years ago when I was diagnosed with Scleroderma, Raynaud's and a circulatory disorder which causes thrombosis and blood clots. After being misdiagnosed several times by regular family doctors I was encouraged to find an internal medicine doctor as my PCP. I was very impressed with her credentials and chose her as my PCP. For the first 2-3 years I found her to be very thorough. She was kind, compassionate and I felt like she spent time with me. Unforunately all this changed when the office moved to their new location. Even though I only see her a couple of times a year, she was often unavailable and I saw the PA or Dr. McCrory who is not an internal medicine doctor. If I was sick I had to go to TX Med Clinic because same day or late appts. Were never available. Last week I saw Dr. YU because I happened to have a regular appointment with her. I explained I was having many respiratory problems which can be serious for Scleroderma patients. She… prescribed prednisone and told me to call back to see her if I was not better in a week. I have steadily become worse so I called this morning and explained everything to a nurse. She said she would give the message to Dr. Yu. I did not get a call back for a couple of hours and then I was told to come in to see Dr. McCrory who is not an internist. I told the nurse that I was not happy with Dr. McCrory. From my experience with her I did not feel she understood my complex medical history. I requested a call from Dr. Yu but was told she would not be available because she had a "full day". I could come see her tomorrow afternoon but no sooner. I am an elementary school teacher and already missed a day of school today. I will need to find another PCP because my needs are not being met my Dr. YU or Healthtexas.

I have waited for almost 3 months for my appt then it was cancelled. The staff told me that they'll call me and reschedule it as soon as possible. I called back the office because they call me, they told me the soonest appt is on Sept 2012!!! Dr Yu is really a good MD. Im not sure if she is aware of how hard to get an appt with her. Hopefully, this ould open up some changes.
