An obstruction to gender care This was the most horrible visit I've had with any medical professional in 39 years. I went in because I have struggled with gender issues my entire life - it's been a difficult thing to confront and I finally felt I was in a place where I could do it. I was incredibly anxious when I was there, but was prepared to explain where I was, how I felt w/regards to gender and expected to receive medical advice and guidance. Within 10 seconds of talking, she bluntly told me that she was "not here to help me figure out anything" and that she only prescribes drugs and approves surgeries. I was devastated by their lack of bedside manner and disregard for me and my physical and mental health. When I asked for a baseline for hormones, she told me they "don't do that" and accused me of seeking out help for a deficiency. She repeatedly refused to book an appt with the Gender Pathways counselor ("They're just booked too far out") and I was fighting suicidal ideations as I… left the office. DO NOT VISIT

This doctor is uninformed, unsupportive and unpleasant. During the pandemic she mangled our phone consultations repeatedly, including using condescending, gatekeeping language while denying me care. She also hung up on me as I was in the middle of a question. It was so disrespectful. Trans folks deserve better. I was so put off by my experience with Dr. Detlefsen I am now paying out of pocket for HRT with another provider, despite having KP insurance.

This woman is a mistake of a doctor. I waited for a very long time to have an appointment just for consultations. She flat out refused to send referrals to doctors even though I stated that my policy covers these procedures. She was abrupt and cut me off at any chance that I had to speak. This woman started yelling at me, and she belittled me. She is very abusive towards transwomen. I am so glad this piece of crap is not managing my care. I now have to fight with my insurance to find another doctor willing to just see me for consultations.

She seems nice at first, but then everything goes downhill. She takes months to return emails and/or phone calls. She says she will do something but doesn't. She lies and says we have talk about something before, when we haven't. And, if you are trans she treats you like your sex, not your gender, meaning hormones are not where they should be. If you are trans just stay away from her. She is the only dr at kaiser that helps supposedly with bottom surgery. So get someone else while you can.

Dr. Detlefsen is abusive to transgender patients and delays necessary transition care despite statistics proving that this is dangerous and results in depression & suicide.
