Dr. Stephen Edward Baum, MD

I went to Dr. Baum and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 75% of my colon and I had dropped 43 lbs in 5 weeks due to bleeding. Dr. Baum indicated that this was an auto-immune disorder and it had nothing to do with diet. The only remedies was surgery or lifetime medication. He was rude on the 4 times we discussed my problem, he did not forward my medical records across the street and I had to wait over 6 hours to even get a glass of water in my room, he was dismissive of my questions to alternatives. Dr. Baum is in total Western medicine approach with treating the symptom and not the cause. I then went to Billings Clinic. Same assessment, different verse, other than they wanted to cut my colon out after only 2 weeks and move to a colostomy bag for the rest of my life. They also indicated this had nothing to do with diet. I then went to Yellowstone Naturopathic Clinic - they go after the cause and not the symptom - smart team. Bingo, UC is affected by diet. They… administered a food immunity test to determine what foods caused an immune response and then they provide direction on which foods to eat and which ones to stay away from. Since then, I have undergone complete remission for 5 years. I life a full life (unrestricted) and only have to stay away from a handful of foods.

He was patient and listened to my issues.

I was referred to Dr. Baum by my internist. I found him to be an excellent practitioner who has shown caring and concern for me as a patient.

As he was the doctor in charge, this review has to go against him. I was seen by his staff only, never met the man, never spoke with him let alone had him spend any time with me. His staff inserted a pH probe between their personal phone calls. I was given an emergency phone number which turned out to be a wrong number. I later learned that the correct number is only manned during normal office hours. After hours you are on your own and may find yourself in the emergency room. Even so he still submitted a report to an insurance company which in no way reflects my symptoms or condition. Had he taken a little of his precious time to visit with me, or for that matter with the other specialists I saw, he would likely not have reported exactly what the insurance company wanted to read. NOTE: The one star rating is because the computer does not allow anything lower.

I would highly recommend Dr. Baum.He is professional and knowledgable. He is prepaired to spend time explaining or answering questions in a non rushed manner.

totally humilated myself and spouse during office visit. Never turned in paper work for insurance.Treated us like dirt and was not up to date on Hep C. Would not take a sick goat to him.

Jennifer Lopez would trust Dr. Baum with her asset so why not you? Dr. Baum is the BEST Gastroenterologist in Montana. He is very thorough and professional. I felt safe with him and trust his recommendations. He is a great guy and has a great sense of humor when you need it most. Seeing a Gastro-doc is not fun anyway so make the best of it. No Butts about it, he is Tops in the Bottoms.
