Dr. Stephen Loyd Brotherton, MD

Sad that some folks rate people so poorly based on their self centered perspective of my time is more valuable than others. They really should look at all dimensions of the person's practice before grading a one star. Enough said! Dr. Brotherton is a skilled surgeon. I had Mako robotic double bi-lateral knee replacement. Dr. Brotherton completed the surgery working in tandem with Dr. Brigati. The procedure went as predicted to time and process. I was walking 3 hours after surgery. Hospital time was one full day. I looked at every aspect of Dr. Brotherton's professionalism. He is published professional. He leads in several medical associations. He devotes time to helping others in foreign countries, giving back some of his fortunate circumstance and hard training. He is a Christian, who participates in his faith. More important he is highly respected not just by his peers but by his support groups. Just mention his name to staff at check in, pre-op, or nursing staff. They are glad to… show their respect and admiration for being associated with Dr. Brotherton. For me that says so much more than whether he was late for an appointment. He provides excellent surgical techniques, cost reduction processes, and patient value.

He’s a disgrace to everyone in the health care community. He lacks respect for people and their time. It’s ridiculous to never see him after 2 appointments and waiting in the waiting room for over 3 hours combines. I was told the wrong injury by his assistant and didn’t get surgery for months after.(Not by his office thank God)

Dr. Brotherton is an excellent orthopedic surgeon. Yes, he is very busy because he is very much in demand. He has an outstanding reputation among the nurses and his colleagues. He is a skilled and experienced surgeon. In my opinion you should never go to second best for healthcare, legal work or haircuts. People often just show up in the office and ask to be worked in so yes there may be a long wait time but his office staff will tell you on the phone to bring something to read. He is worth the wait. There are other doctors who have good reputations that are undeserved. His is well- deserved. He has won numerous awards, was president of the Texas Medical Association, served on the AMA Ethics committee for many years, advises medical students, goes on church mission trips, just to name a few of his activities. An all around great guy. He will not dish out opioids so don’t even try. If that’s all a patient wants then they should go to someone less professional.

He went over the x-rays with us and said I need to have a knee replacement, which I figured I did, because I had my other knee replaced back in 2003 and it did just like this one is doing. He answered my questions and was very thorough. My bad knee had caused my ankle to fall so he had me fitted for a brace because I need to be walking and getting ready for a major surgery for something tottally different. Then after I get over the surgery he will do my knee replacement. My husband also had an appt to see him for the first time and my husband was really pleased with him. The nurses were very sweet and the ladies in the front office were very professional and very sweet. I am very thankful for Dr. Brotherton.

waited 2 weeks to see this dr. He was on vacation. I had an appointment to see HIM> yet they send in a very nice young man to tell me what my dr has already told me, took the same xrays I had taken at my dr's office, never saw Dr. Brotherton and was still charged for seeing him.

Ordered surgery without even spending 2 minutes with me. He didn't order any diagnostic testing to ensure I really needed surgery. He literally spent less than 5 minutes with me, did not explain anything in regards to the procedure, recovery time, etc. Walked out of the room in the middle of me asking questions. Seriously? This may not seem like a big deal to him, but any surgery is serious in my book and spending a little time with patients before automatically deciding on a surgical route is not good bedside manner.

After two failed surgeries followed by therapy and orthotics, my foot issues remain unresolved.

Our experience with brotherton was not a good experience. He has an ego that gives you an impression that "You are fortunate that I'm your Doctor" You are just a moneymaker for him and you are treated as such. No empathy he even cares about you. Do you want that? Caveat emptor. Complained about patient care to Baylor. I voiced my displeasure and never received a follow up. Brotherton is head of the medical society and makes too much money for Baylor. Swept under the rug as usual.

Dr. Brotherton was very thorough. He answered all of my questions. I'm very happy with the results of my Arthoscopic Knee Surgery.

I do not understand why this doctor has gotten any bad reviews. He is a superb surgeon and human being. His patients love him! Yes, his office is very busy because he is in such demand. He is in such demand because he is the best. In fact his office staff will usually tell you on the phone when you schedule an appointment that you should bring something to read because it will be a lengthy wait. I have witnessed that some patients will just show up at their office without an appointment and ask to be worked into his schedule. I know from experience that when I am in pain I am more irritated and do not always accurately hear or appreciate what the doctor or PT is saying. Perhaps that is the case with the few disgruntled patients. I also know that his office will not fill narcotics prescriptions without good reason and people often abuse doctors' offices when trying to get drug prescriptions so they have to be very careful about filling them.
