Dr. Stephen Earl Brown

Dr. Brown is very skilled, very experienced, and has a calming low key persona. But I felt he over-operated on me for $ in 2014 and tried to sweep an issue under the rug, which I am still dealing with in 2019. I am having to get another risky operation (with a different surgeon) to fix what went wrong. I needed a (scheduled) appendectomy in 2014. There was some risk that I would also need a Partial Right Hemicolectomy at the same time, so I signed a Release. Dr. Brown said that while I was under, the pathology lab would inspect a frozen section of excised tissue from the appendix, before deciding whether to proceed with the Hemicolectomy. However, he must not have coordinated with the pathology lab because they were apparently “out to lunch” during my surgery. So Dr. Brown just did the Hemi anyway ($). Then, 10 business days AFTER my surgery, the pathology lab finally issued their results: all clear. There was no reason to remove most of my right colon. The… appendectomy was done laparoscopically with an outer Single Incision near my belly button. Aesthetically, that was nice — for a New York minute. However, as I have now learned frequently happens with SILS, the incision got infected, resulting in a Double Incisional Umbilical Hernia with a loop of INTESTINE coming out. BUT, despite 2-3 post-op office visits with Dr. Brown, he denied it was a hernia and claimed it was “just post-op swelling” that could take a year to go down. He did not order a CT Scan... Finally I saw my PCP and demanded a CT Scan. I was right and Brown was wrong. I actually think he KNEW it was probably a hernia, but didn’t want to admit it, and didn’t want to have to fix it. I gave his office a chance to fix it (my BCBS would have paid), but their General Surgeon (Lynn Calhoun or something) described a very underwhelming, shoddy approach that was BOUND to fail. When I questioned that (having done lots of research beforehand about methods of this type of hernia repair), he was very dismissive and rude. I have since found the surgeon I intend to use (who BTW agreed that Brown should have known it was a hernia and that their planned hernia repair approach was lame), but I have undergone bariatric surgery in order to lose enough weight to make the hernia repair safer. So the hernia has been a bother for over 5 years, and I am facing another major surgery. If Dr. Brown had admitted I had a hernia earlier, I could have gotten it repaired right away (albeit somewhere ELSE) before it grew in size.

Dr Brown does not have his hand on the door knob!!!! He takes all the time you need to answer your questions. He is very patient, caring, gentle and calming. Was very surprised when he returned a call (instead of the nurse) regarding a question a day after returning home. He is awesome.You'll not be disappointed.

Very calm excellent surgeon

This doctor sees patients that other doctors can't help. If you only ever see one doctor, see Dr. Brown, if you have seen other doctors, get the correct diagnosis and care from Dr. Brown. Having spent a year being mis diagnosed and being told that treatment was too difficult, Dr. Brown managed everything with consummate ease. His bedside manner is excellent and comes across as being an expert in his field. He is amazing. Thank you!

Dr Brown is a very caring doctor. His care is the best and highly knowledgeable.

My father had exploratory surgery (August 2015) and Dr. Brown found the problems (one site was a previously unknown but serious condition) and repaired them. His surgical team was also excellent. We saw Dr Brown and/or his associates 2+ times daily in the hospital. Good Sam hospital also took very good care of my father.

dr. Brown performed a colonectemy on me. He fully explained the procedure and what to expect. After the surgery, he explained all the steps that my recovery would entail. Everything he said happened just as he described. Some of the hospital residents would occasionally make comments that were nowhere near as accurate as Dr. Brown. I would highly recommend him to anyone .

I would highly recommend Dr. Brown he's very patient ,caring . I was very emotional of what was going on and when I had my first appointment with Dr. Brown he made me feel comfortable about the surgery I needed. When I had my surgery Dr. Brown and his staff checked on me daily, making sure everything was ok . He was just awesome he had done a few of my family members surgery and they have been great ever since . I highly recommend Dr. Brown especially when needing your colon removed he does a great job to avoid having a colostomy bag ...All of the staff in the office are awesome there very caring , and nice,
