Dr. Stephen Andrew Carp, DO

Dr. Carp has been my doctor as well as my husband's for several years, and he has always been very thorough, dedicated, and compassionate. He leaves no stone unturned. He always pursues answers and seeks ways to support us with our medical needs. He truly goes the extra mile to ensure the best outcomes for our health. He truly cares about his patients and follows through with referrals and diagnostic tests. He is the one who picked up on a heart condition that I had no idea was brewing. His careful and insightful questions during a visit for something completely unrelated to my heart enabled him to figure out that I needed an ECG before I left the clinic that very day. His follow up testing uncovered a completely hidden issue that would have gone unaddressed if he had not been so observant and diligent. He is open-minded, flexible, and honest. We can't imagine entrusting our care to anyone else. We appreciate Dr. Carp's kindness and approach to looking at the "big picture" while… attending to the essential details. We won the lottery when we were accepted as his patients!

I was a patient with Salem Clinic for 30 years, I asked to be transfer to Dr Carp because my doctor was going to retire and I heard that Carp would be good. After meeting with Dr. Carp the first time I was not that impressed, but I was willing to work on the relationship. I always felt like a number with him, and my health was all about numbers to him and no care about the person (I was not use to this kind of concern or lack thereof) he always seemed like he was discussed with me and why didn't I do what he told me to do, he wanted to see me like every two months. I just asked why, I've never seen the doctor every two months or more. What do you need to see me so often and what don't I do that you have asked me to do? I went on a vacation for a month and a half, when I came back I had made an appointment before leaving but it put me about three months out (that was the first appointment I could get). He asked me to tell him what I thought about our relationship, I said well..... he… said go ahead its okay. I said I didn't think he was the doctor I had been told he was, his 86ed letter almost beat me home. I could not believe he could do such a thing, I had plan each phase of retirement for me, I wanted a young doctor that could give me the care I would need for years to come. He threw me out in the street just when the bus was coming by. I would not recommend Dr Steven Carp. I consider him to be very diss concerned about people, MY wife goes to him and he continues to try to put her on medications and she has no health issues and doesn't want any. I am watching his care very closely, I just done trust the guy. If I were a patient I would just have to double check him and that isn't a good position for a patient to be with your doctor. He stresses me out! I could not believe Salem Clinic would allow this to happen I had never had any problems in 30 years. So it's not only about DR. Carp but Salem Clinic as well

My husband went in for a foot problem, but Dr Carp quickly picked up on the fact he needed heart valve surgery. He literally saved my husbands life. EXCELLANT Doctor!!!!! This guy is sharp!

Is a nice guy and shows genuine concern, and definitely ready to refer patients to others as needed. Has given me references to very good specialists whom I did not know existed and who helped where earlier ones I had seen had failed. However, his diagnotic skills and ability to interpret tests does not seem to be consistently reliable. He spends time with patients, but I had some difficulties with communication. As noted in another review, he often seems to spend more time asking questions than listening to the patient's concerns and their main reason for coming in for the visit, often jumping from one topic to another before listening to answers to questions he has asked. Even if appropriate treatment is achieved, this can make a visit stessful. I am looking for a primary doctor with whom I can talk more comfortably, as I can with my specialists. His medical assistant the last few years is pleasant and efficient - a big improvement over earlier ones. Have had difficulty in… general getting in to see a Salem Clinic primary doctor or being able to talk to one on the phone regarding something urgent - can take a couple of weeks for an appointment, and so may instead end up in urgent care when you need to talk to someone who is familiar with your history.

Takes time to listen to you and listens attentively. Honest, sincere, candid, compasionate. Very knowledgable but will gladly seek help from fellow doctors if necessary. I would highly reccomend him.

I really like Dr.Carp, but I don't like Salem Clinic. When I call in I have to go through a phone tree and have to wait quite a while on hold. The staff is inefficient and his nurse is very unfriendly. I need a Dr. that I can talk to about my personal problems at home that effect my health but he always puts me off and doesn't want or doesn't have the time to listen. If I could find another Dr. that fulfilled those qualifications I would change in a minute,.

Dr. S. Andy Carp is an excellent physician who is up to date with his knowledge of medical issues. I would recommend him to anyone, including my family. He is a straight shooter, no beating around the bush, which is what I like. We need more physicians like him in this community. His wife, Dr. Lesley Garber, is also an excellent physician. Would also recommend her to anyone.

Looking for a doctor. After several years of chronic problems and doctors of acceptable to excellent I personally feel 'Andy' isn't. Quote,"I don't have time to answer your question - just listen and answer my questions so I can get the paperwork done." As my grandmother said,"If you can't say ANYTHING nice about someone - don't say anything."
