Dr. Stephen Michael Cox, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Cox for MANY years. I've had health insurance the whole time, but he does NOT take insurance. I have had to pay the whole charge out of pocket for years. But there's no other doctor I want to switch to. Now I'm on social security and wondering how I'm going to afford it on less income. He has helped me but I can't cope without the meds. If you have the money, this doctor is THE BEST.

Dr. Cox is I have ever went to. I started having panic attacks when I was 35 years old and he put me on small doses of Xanax. Nothing helped until he upped the Xanax those 22 mg three times a day however after 15 years of taking this drug and having excellent results and no problems and never abusing it I found that I cannot afford as a senior citizen and on a fixed income to go see him because he charges $250 a visit and does not except insurance. This is put me in a terrible position because he promised me he would never drop me as a patient because with the new Kentucky laws nobody can write for Xanax and I can't find a psychiatrist Who doesn't want to take me off of it. I wish Dr Cox Charlie would reconsider the money situation when all you are asking for is your prescription that he put you on to begin with.

I went to see Dr. Cox for anxiety. My anxiety was so crippling it kept me up until 2 or 3 a.m. every night, made me not want to get out of bed and face the world in the mornings, and made me afraid of going places by myself-I had a fear of public places and social anxiety on top of that. I also didn't go on our family summer vacation because the thought of driving in a car for a day to another state gave me even more anxiety. It was so bad that by the time I went to see Dr. Cox I was depressed too (I was crying all the time), which he said can happen. Dr. Cox took the time to truly listen to me, and to put me on the correct medication and worked with me to get the dose just right. I have my life back now. I sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow, I'm no longer afraid to leave my house, and I am looking forward to our vacation this year. Dr. Cox also took the time to explain why I get anxiety too. Understanding that there is a true physiological reason for anxiety… has helped me psychologically as well, because the doctors I'd seen before him just all made me feel like I was "crazy." Dr. Cox has always treated me with respect and dignity. I am forever grateful to him.

One of the most professional and caring providers I have experienced with, Let me fist start by saying he is the first psychiatrist I have seen and was not sure what to expect. Dr. Cox was very attentive and listened to all of my needs and concerns. I felt very relaxed to discuss my issues with Dr. Cox, he is the one to see. He is not like other doctor I have ever had and was really surprise when I realized a Doctor like him does exist. He is amazing and is kind along with his wonderful staff. He was able to help me function in my high stress job of pharmaceutical sales. He has given me back my ability to sleep, and not sweat the small stuff. I would encourage anyone who is having issue to seek help, and Dr. Cox is a great choice, would highly recommend to any and every one.

This is meant to be more informative, and I hope, helpful. - This review is mostly meant for fellow veterans. Even if Dr. Cox isn't the right fit for you or geographically out of your way, I wanted to share that after ten-plus years of being told I needed specific treatments and not being able to proceed, there are medical professionals with vast knowledge, who will take the time to listen to you and carry out the necessary evaluations, and who will help find the right treatment plan. It's still not easy, but my ability to contribute to friends, family, and at work has improved on a level I didn't think was possible. - As a disabled veteran, I've found that some of the treatments available are limited by policy implications at the VA. Dr. Cox has worked at the Veteran's Administration in the past and is knowledgeable and experienced in treating veterans. For example, the VA has recommended two treatments for me personally in the same medical report that they stated they don't… prescribe the medication that they recommend. - Dr. Cox takes the time to look at your past medical records and considers what other physicians and psychiatrists have noted in their evaluations. He combines that with his own extensive experience, personal research, and professional knowledge. - He treats each individual patient as an individual. NOT as a statistic. - There is no substitute for doing your own research and even asking other doctors for recommendations, which is how I discovered Dr. Cox. The positive thing about the VA is that they did recommend seeking outside treatment due to their limitations. - On a personal level, I can't say enough good things about Dr. Cox. He truly takes the time to understand you as a person and as a patient, combining a human understanding with medical knowledge, research, and evaluations.

I am thankful that I was referred to Dr. Cox. He is very knowledgeable in many areas and understanding of his patients. He helped me very much.

Dr. Cox has been my psychiatrist for many years. In the past I had been to many physicians and never felt that the time, energy or explanation of things were ever presented to me in a proper, calming and compassionate way. He has helped me cope with many things that I have battled for many years, such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. I would recommend to anyone that battles with these disorders to please reach out to him. P.S. His staff is always warm, inviting and always sensitive.

Most medical doctors do not know how to treat panic disorder or anxiety. They try to prescribe anti-depression meds. If you're not depressed, you will be from the side effects these drugs have on your pschy! They boast that they do not prescribe anti-anxiety meds and almost are arrogant about it. Dr. Cox, on the other hand, understands the illness, listens to your individual problems and diagnosis your symptoms. Thank you Dr. Cox for allowing me to live life again!!

I was utilizing the Internet to remedy a very poor choice I had made; I had reduced my Xanax dosage from 8mg per day to 6mg per day due to a rebound anxiety episode. I have been on this dose for only 6 months and prior to I was taking 2mg three times per day for approximately 3 years. I was deathly afraid as I have never had this experience before nor was I unaware this could happen. I paged my doctor immediately and she refused to help me taper and ignored the blatant warning signs of my increased anxiety and depression: tolerance to the drug was mounting. She continued to tell me to "double up" or "take your Xanax!" Huge mistake. I had obviously become tolerant to the drug and I am paying dearly for the withdrawal symtoms are unbearable. It has been two weeks on a too large of a dosage decrease but I was so frightened by the rebound anxiety episode that I immediately began to taper down with no knowledge of the inherent complications of an abrupt drop in Xanax and what it can do to… wreak havoc on the brain/body. I wish I had Dr. Cox as my psychiatrist as so many of his patients have responded so favorably to his compassion, wisdom, and knowledge. I visited with another psychiatrist to appropriately taper me off of Xanax with high doses of XanaxXR and to discontinue tapering after 3 weeks! The pharmacist immediately warned me that I could be in danger. Dr. Cox's tapering regimen is the only way to properly taper from Xanax as I have researched. I wish my doctor would have been vigilantly watching over me to make certain I followed every precaution and prudently addressed my increased agitation, depression, etc., due to the frequency and high dosage. I only wish Dr. Cox lived in New York! I however made my own choice and my own misery. My doctor never phoned me back and was very aware of my symtoms. Regardless, no guidance or concern. To allow a patient to suffer is reprehensible and reckless. You are all blessed to have Dr. Cox as your psychiatrist. I see my primary tomorrow and I am completely prepared to share Dr. Cox's tapering schedule and his experience and knowledge.
