Dr. Stephen Edgar Deal, MD

I found Dr. Deal to be arrogant including when I did not want to shake his hand due to covid concerns. He recommended several tests that seemed appropriate, but did not note "medically necessary" on one series which according to my insurance is why they did not pay. Tried to get this tended to with no success after many calls to Dr. Deal's office, the lab and insurance. He wanted me to go on Creon meds for EPI, taking them with every meal and snack. Saw another doctor who did not think this is necessary; went on FODMAP diet for several weeks, and all is much better.

We feel that my fiancé received substandard care from Dr Deal. His bedside manner is very poor & he does not include the patient or family in the plan of care. He speaks in a derogatory manner when asked questions. I am so disappointed in the care that my fiancé received. The staff was very kind & helpful. We may see another provider with this practice, but will not be seeing Dr Deal. I have been a registered nurse for 21 years so am very aware of how patients should be treated & not every patient’s treatment plan will be the same. I feel for patients who might not have someone to advocate for them when encountered with a physician who shows no respect to truly listen & makes them feel belittled. I hope to keep others from having a poor experience like we did.

Dr. Deal is straight forward, honest and very competent.

Dr Deal has been my mother's surgeon since Oct 2017. She has advanced Stage 4 liver cancer and a very complicated biliary system due to previous major surgeries. He has performed 4 procedures on her over 17 months and each time we were so grateful he was her surgeon. It is surprising to read some of the other comments as his reputation among other physicians is very good. His vast experience enables him to tackle complicated procedures that have prolonged my mother's life.

My first visit with Dr. Deal was fine, although he did not have any information in his chart about me(which he should have had) it was not a big deal to have to repeat myself. After my colonoscopy everything went bad, I could not get his clinical assistant Blake to return my calls, she mumbles her words and is hard to understand her plain English. They made an error on my prescriptions but luckily I caught the mistake and reported it. Blake lied to Dr. Deal that she returned my calls when in many occasions she never did. Dr. Deal turned me away from an appointment because I was 20 min late even though I was in pain and was the reason for my appointment. His clinical assistant cancelled my appointment without telling me and I had to fight my way into being seeing on that day to at least get my test results. During my last appointment he was rude, arrogant, and completely unprofessional. He is definitely not a caring doctor.

Nice for initial visit to get kick backs and money for procedures. If you have a tough case, he gives up quickly. Stops listening and doesn’t answer questions. He will ask you to give him a few moments to read your chart but then won’t let you speak. Based on reading the reviews here, whether he will treat you like a person and not a dollar sign is hit or miss. Do you really want to find out which one you will be? See someone else with better reviews. Put your money with someone who deserves it. Also he doesn’t care about your privacy. He discuss your medical information in the hallway for all to see without caring about your privacy. Pretty humiliating.

My friends and I have been treated by Dr. Deal for years. His expertise is unquestionable.

What a TERRIBLE doctor, I read bad reviews about Dr. Deal but I gave him a chance and I made an appointment with him, What a horrible mistake, this guy is Arrogant, doesn't listen to the patients, and he thinks that his patients are animals and only $$$$$$$ please read reviews and don't make the same mistake I made.

The absolute best doctor ever. Very concerned about your overall health in order to figure out the problem in ref. to the digestive tract. I would highly recommend him.
