Dr. Stephen Vincent Dimarzo, MD

This is not the doc you want delivering your baby! Pro: Baby came out alive! Con: Everything else: professionalism, patient care, communication, attitude, … Rude/Old-school: He was a bit rude on day 1, but we chucked it as him being old-school-style doc who does not like to answer too many questions. My wife says he had the most painful hands she ever by a gynecologist. Uncaring/inattentive: He is a Doc that prefers to have scheduled c-sections and be done. He is not attentive to the patient's preferences nor needs: he tried to push for an unnecessary c-section to fit his schedule. He is part of the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla Gynecology team, and we were wishing our baby would be born under any of the other 13 docs in that group. Alas, he was on call that night, when he finally arrived, he sat 6 feet away chewing gum during most of the labor. I had to point out that my wife's mouth was turning blue before he realized they should provide oxygen. It will be his way, no… matter what he tells you during pre-labor visits: I'll spare you the details, but to illustrate with an example: without clear need and despite my questioning, suddenly there was an episiotomy and oxytocin injection after the delivery, which he later explained was just standard procedure, though never mentioned before! I'm not trying to argue the medical decisions in this case, but to warn you that this is not the caring/patient doctor who will communicate with you nor really care about you as a human being. Please read the other reviews! I apologize to anyone who suffered under this doctor’s care due to my delay in writing this review. He should have been “retired” by now. The 4.9-star rating on the Scripps page is highly doubtful, someone should interview his patients. The only reason we gave him 2 stars is that our baby is healthy and doing fine despite him and we did have a great nurse during the labor!

He fell asleep and left me in labor for 21 hours. A nightmare ending in a “c” section. Next child I got nurse recommendations.

Dr. DiMarzo is the best. Wonderful bedside manner. Professional and reassuring. Been seeing him for 20 years. Would not go anywhere else.

Do not rely on him to get things about you right. Do not expect him to follow up. Expect that he will order the wrong test or you or have his staff order it for you ? Be advised that even though you may think he is your doctor, another one may be on the order for a test.

Fantastic doctor. Best I have ever had.

He's the worst kind of doctor I've ever met. He's never listened to us, never explained the results of test, always trying to get off from patient's room as soon as possible. I didn't say I'm a doctor, because I know clinician-related patient sometimes makes us a bit careful. He looks bored with what he is doing, just repeating his routine without any passion. I saw the good reputation in this reviews, which makes me surprise.. Terrible, terrible, terrible!! Don't choose him.

For OB/GYN appointments I would definitely go back to this doctor. Took the time to talk to me and had a great nursing staff.

Completely disinterested and aloof. Shows no interest in his patients well being or more importantly their concerns. Always in a rush to get out of the room and demonstrates terrible bedside manner. Most recently his lack of attention to detail manifested itself when he prescribed my wife a penicilin based antibiotic despite the fact that she is highly allergic to penicillin and all sulfa drugs. Even worse, when my wife called his office to discuss her concern having already taken one of the pills Dr DiMarzo was "out to lunch" and unavailable to speak to her. Truly inexplicable that a so called expert could make such an egregious error and further evidence of his sloppy and cavalier approach to his practice. There is simply no place for Dr DiMarzo's indifferent attitude and path of least resistance mentatility - I would strongly encourage anyone considering his services to look elsewhere.

Absolutely one of the worst doctors I have ever met with. He couldn't keep his eyes open to discuss my issues, wanted to hear nothing of my previous lab results and just pushed me off my referring me to a fertility specialist. If my husband wouldn't have been with me, he wouldn't have believed how bad it was. Sorry doctor for interrupting your afternoon nap!
