Dr. Stephen John Gluckman, MD

I went to this doctor at the recommendation of a physician colleague friend. Sadly disappointed. He interrupts and doesn’t let you speak for more than 2 minutes without interrupting you. He was a bit rude and condescending and questioned why I saw him. He left my left breast uncovered for several mins during a cardiac exam which I’ve never had done before. It was upsetting and creepy. Then after questioning why I was there, diagnosed me with something he supposedly is an expert in. Worst Drs visit ever.

He seemed nice at first - joking with me and engaging in what seemed like a respectful way. Of course, once I started asking (reasonable) questions, he lost his patience very quickly. He also told me that a particular medication I have taken doesn't work for the disease for which it was prescribed, telling me in a disrespectful way that my other doctor doesn't know what he's talking about. For the record, the medication in question completely cleared symptoms of my previous issue, and was prescribed by a doctor I respect greatly who has worked with me for years and did a lot to resolve my health issues. It seems quite unprofessional to badmouth a doctor you don't know, talk down to a patient you just met, whose medical records you have not reviewed, and claim with no context to know more than my specialist about my condition. He also argued with me when I mentioned a study that a friend (who heads a research lab at the Harvard School of Public Health) is working on related to something… Dr. Gluckman mentioned, which I shared simply because I thought it might be of interest to him as a clinician. The best doctors I've seen are curious, open-minded, and compassionate. This was not my experience with Dr. Gluckman, and sadly has been an issue with most docs at Penn I've seen so far. Overall, a surprising and disappointing experience that left me grateful I have access to better medical care elsewhere.

He does not consider himself to be a diagnostician. I had a complicated case. He did not even take my medical records. He told me some people just get sick and have to learn to deal with it. A horrible physician compared with the empathy that most physicians (and people) exhibit.

I sat on the exam table in the tie-back gown the nurse told me to change into for a good 10 minutes before Dr Gluckman even realized I was there in the room with him! He was sitting at his desk reading, and after 10+ minutes turned around & said, "Are you waiting to see me?" I thought to myself, you've got to be kidding?...there's no one else in the room but you and I and I'm in a hospital gown....of course I'm waiting to see you! He listened to my story, but never examined me. He didn't order any tests or look at the medical records I brought with me. He simply stepped back, looked into my eyes and said there was nothing wrong with me and then proceeded to insult me. He told me I was delusional like many other patients. I assured him that I was Not delusional, but that I was a very mentally-sound healthcare professional seeking a diagnosis. I then dressed and left feeling disgusted and also ashamed of the way he represented the medical profession. Seeing Dr. Gluckman was a complete… waste of my time, and I was shocked by this so-called Specialist's lack of attentiveness, compassion or intellect. I have completely lost faith in the medical community that calls themselves Specialists after my visit with this arrogant and rude hippy. I cannot believe he is still employed at PENN. I refuse to return to PENN in the future after this glimpse of the caliber of Dr.'s they staff. Extremely disappointed.

Strange affect and at times sounded condescending. Not the best bedside manner. Little to no compassion. Seemed to doubt my story. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

I accompanied my family member to her physician's appointment at the Presbyterian Hospital Primary Care Office recently. The office is clean, neat and organized. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable. However, I was appalled at the rudeness, insensitivity and lack of compassion exhibited by Dr. Gluckman. My family member has battled lung cancer twice and has a chronic respiratory disease and infection. My family member informed him that she was having pain. He responded with, "I do not want to hear about your pain. I am not your pain doctor. I want to know about your infection". After his response, I needed him to clarify his role in my family member's care. I then asked him if he was my family member's primary care physician. He did not answer the question and responded that another physician is managing my family member's pain. I then asked if he was the physician who was coordinating my family member's care from a holistic perspective. Again, he did not answer my… question. I could not believe how my family member was treated during her follow up visit with Dr. Gluckman. I think Dr. Gluckman could benefit from sensitivity training and perhaps some time off from his busy work schedule.

This person propagates the most deadly plague ever known 2 human kind; man made vector born infectious disease! He is ENTERTAINED by the gory details of dying Lyme Victims and he denies Lyme exists. This person should not be interacting with people let alone those that are direly ill. He is dangerous. He is a Gary Wormser and IDSA groupie. I beseech you to watch the documentary Under Our Skin please. You can get Lyme from saliva.

Did some sort of general exam and concluded something that could not have been determined from that exam or information I supplied.
