Dr. Stephen David Johnson, MD

Dr. Johnson performed a double surgery at L2 and L4. L4 was for a herniated disc and L2 was the removal of an intradural mass. He was meticulous in every way! I wouldn’t use any other neurosurgeon! He is absolutely the best!

I was in pain for 14 years and losing sensation in my arms and fingers. Dr. Johnson operated, and I am back to normal. His operating team is the best and highly thought of by the staff at St. Luke's. Sandy, in the office, is very supportive and a great communicator. I highly recommend Dr. Johnson.

He is an outstanding, brilliant, direct/to the point professional who I trusted through spine surgery.

I did not have a good experience with Dr. Johnson, and despite my assertion that I was suffering no loss of sensation in my leg and foot, he repeatedly jabbed me with a safety pin. Who does that? It hurts and it's rude! Other doctors since have a) believed what I told them and b) checked with a little spoked wheel, which does not hurt.

Doesn't listen. Rude.

I did not feel Dr. Johnson particularly listened to me or believed me when I described my symptoms. I had to repeat my answers to several questions because he asked them twice-- I guess he thought the first answer was wrong. And then, to test my level of sensation (which I had just told him was normal), he stuck me repeatedly with a safety pin! As you might guess, this freaking hurt, but he kept right on doing it, without so much as a by-your-leave. I'm not sure what's hard to understand about "Ow. Ow! OW!" but there you go.

I saw Dr. Johnson today. He said that he doesn't know what my brain abnormality is and he won't biopsy it. Then he went on to tell me that the diagnosis I had for my back was inaccurate and there is nothing wrong with it and I should see a psychologist. I have been in a lot of pain the last few months with numbness showing up in different parts of my body. He asked me why I was walking with a cane and told me not too. He did not have any interest in figuring out what the abnormality in my brain is or why I'm having the symptoms I am. He totally dismissed me and my problems and made me feel very belittled, I left his office in tears. I would not recommend him to anyone nor would I wish that experience on anyone.
