Dr. Stephen Edward Langer, MD

Dr. Langer is not the most charismatic doctor I have met, but he definitely knows his science. The office is tiny, the staff is one other person, and he is rather arrogant but he is able to help those who stick it out. I saw Dr. Langer several years ago and have done well until recently when changes have occurred and I may be returning to him altho it isn't convenient distance wise for me now. If he can't help you, you can't be helped. (A friend also saw him and feels the same way.)

I can't believe he wrote such excellent books,he sounded VERY compassionate. In real life (and your checkbook) he is rude and arrogant. He never once read my file before I came in, so I had to pay for 7 of my 20 minute appt so he could try to remember who I am. He would even ask ME what he had prescribed for me?! He would get annoyed when I asked more than 2 questions. He charged over $90 for those appts. and MAKES SURE I am out of his office in 20 minutes or less, no matter what. He only works 3 days/week so why doesn't he have time to read my file briefly before I come in?!!! I asked him for a specific diagnosis- in writing- and he refused! what?! WHen I said I would be changing doctors, he said I didn't have a thyroid problem, so if that was so , why did he continue to see me over 18 months for a thyroid condition and prescribe medication for it?! He's really just too bored and arrogant to care, so why is he still seeing patients? Let's see: 3 days /week, approx. 8… hour/day = 24 hours /week x $90 per 20 minutes= $270/hr or $6624/week x 4 weeks/mo = $26,500 month income . Sweet part-time income. If he actually cared I certainly don't care what his income is...he's just a regular jerk doctor- not a great patient evangelist like his books sound. Find someone else!

Does this sound as if Dr. Langer is just in it for the MONEY? First visit is $300! Bad enough but wait, there's more...in order to get your rather inexpensive medication, such as thyroid, you have to pay this guy $90 each month for him to write a refill order! Wow, since I have found this out I have asked around and discovered that once or twice a year to re visit your doc is the common practice. My rating is no stars?

I have been exhausted for YEARS. My former endocrinologist was adamant that everything in my blood work was within range and my fatigue and weight gain had to be due to other factors. Dr. Langer took action immediately with a new plan for revised thyroid medication and additional supplements. Over time, he has worked with me to identify several things that have been life changing. I haven't felt this good in YEARS. Even my children are telling friends and family that they have their mom back. My husband is elated. Dr. Langer worked hard to hear me. He addressed and treated my symptoms when no one else would even discuss them. We are all so grateful!!

He is out of touch...never knows your file, can't remember what he has recommended from one appt to the next..worst of all a total control freak...will not allow for multiple refills of prescriptions...EVERY month the pharmacy has to fax him for permission, his only one staff member never gets the fax back in a timely fashion and you end up begging the pharmacy for a couple of pills to tide you over while you call the office EVERY day to urge the prescription refill. After two years of this... glad to move on. The pharmacy said ALL his patients go through this. Plus he will call you rather than see you and then charge you for an "office visit"..he is so not on the up and up.....move on...keep looking..this doctor is just awful!
