Dr. Stephen Audley Mathias, MD

Two reasons for this comments: 1, He doesn't care much for the patient. 2, He will say something in his field with confidence even if he has limited knowledge.

Better get a second opinion when you are diagnosed with a very costly treatment plan. We got a second opinion when he diagnosed my child with superior oblique syndrome, a condition so rare that the head NY Pediatric eye professor from Columbia said was one in a million. Well, there were three cases of SOS in our small town alone that year! He talks fast and tries to impress but stay away! God know how many needless operations he talked people in to! Look up his record online. His diagnosis between 97-99% more of little known conditions than any of his contemporaries! BEWARE!

My children have been seeing him for 8 years, I tried another dr and returned right back!

I have been going to Dr. Mathias for about 20 years. He diagnosed a muscle disorder that no other doctor I had gone to had.

Dr. Mathias may be a decent doctor. However, when it comes down to it, he is a rude person, who doesn't care much for the patient. Overall. I'd say he deserves one star, if anything, for the categories given.

Dr. Mathias was rude when I returned to him because I could not see well with the new glasses I ordered with the prescription he gave me. He did not check my retina even though I told him I was transferring to him because another ophthalmologist told me my retina was abnormal. When I later asked to speak to him about the severe retinal diagnosis I was given he refused to speak to me.
