Dr. Stephen Fellman Pariser, MD

Arrogant, over-weening, supercilious dismissive clown. You have been warned. Caveat emptor.

I was referred by Dr. Pariser yrs ago by a senior representative of the hospital where he practiced. I had been struggling with a series of arguments with my husband and was overwhelmed. Within 10 mins of the start of my session Dr. Pariser announced he would be prescribing Prozac, a new drug at the time that he had authorized for 9 other patients. I was very uncomfortable because we were only 10 mins into our session and I was ill at ease with a such a spontaneous diagnosis. I accepted the prescription, had unusual side effects w/n the next couple of months i.e. short term memory issues and a disconnect between thought and articulation. After 2 mos. I announced I'd stop taking Prozac and he insisted that would be ill advised. I stopped taking it anyway with no problem and felt better. He was 15 mins late to an appointment, having taken too long in the cafeteria and brought me cookies to smooth over the situation and did not make up for the time he was being paid for.… Very inconsiderate and unprofessional. On another occasion he told me he'd seen me driving my Jaguar on the highway and advised that it was an inappropriate car for me to drive and I needed to drive something like a minivan or station wagon instead because I was a housewife. There were odd repeated questions of an extremely personal and irrelevant nature which led me to cease working with him. He was odd, inappropriate and very unprofessional. I am very surprised to see he his still practicing.

Dr. Pariser is kind and seems well-intentioned. He is very generous with his time. However, he is one of the dreaded doctors who is skeptical of patients' self-described experiences and information, and who is convinced that a patient cannot possibly know what is best for himself. He can also be skeptical of information provided by other psychiatrists; he seems to harbor a belief that "lesser" psychiatrists are not well-trained or well-informed enough to know what is best for the patient.

Dr. Pariser is an exceptional psychiatrist...a rare find. He is respectful, straightforward, keenly observant and intuitive. His years of experience give him enormous perspective and knowledge. His sense of humor is engagingly effective. Finding Dr. Pariser was the greatest blessing to our family. I would recommend him to anyone.

I am a person with extensive neurological problems brought on by a faulty immune system. Eventually the problems became psychiatric in nature and Dr. Pariser had the knowledge to sort out the complex prescription and behavioral issued I had. Forget about waiting time all the fluff, you want an MD who can work with others on your medical team to treat you correctly. Dr. Pariser does just that.

After 31 years of seeking and receiving treatment for the symptoms of bipolar disorder and severe depression, I am grateful to have found Dr. Pariser. I have been his patient for four years, and have benefited from the drug-therapies he has prescribed and from the care he has taken to work with me in a kind and effective way. He speaks directly about his observations and opinions, and I take his explicitness and his occasional brusqueness as signs of respect. Throughout the period of my treatment, with its major and minor vicissitudes, Dr. Pariser has never failed to recognize my feelings, experiences, and efforts, and he takes pains-- even while treating my illness-- to engage with me as a well person. When necessary, he extends an appointment to ensure that appropriate work is completed. I know that he does this for all his patients (and likely his residents and colleagues, as well); that is why he is sometimes notably behind-schedule. It is worth it to me to wait.

Dr. Pariser is the most comprehensive and knowledgeable doctor we've met. We tried several doctors with no improvement and within days, I was making incredible improvement in symptoms and in my understanding of the illness. He genuinely cares about the well being of his patients and their families.

Seems nice enough and appears concerned but dismisses other opinions/diagnosis of other practitioners without careful review. Rude and pompous when informed of other long standing diagnosis treatment options. Blames residents and patients for oversights.

Dr. Pariser is incredibly knowledgable - about psychiatry as well as other medical areas. He understands how various medical issues and areas impact others. I have been seeing Dr. Pariser for several years because I have a chronic condition. Having been through good times as well as some very rough patches, I can definitely attest to the fact that he is very, very caring and compassionate. Patients see residents, then see the attending, Dr. Pariser with the resident. When more than one resident is waiting or particular residents/patients need more time, Dr. Pariser can run behind or the appt. might be more brief than usual.
