Dr. Stephen M Pirris, MD

Dr. Pirris is my hero. My surgery was the least painful of all my previous surgeries. Although I am still on the mend, this surgery was the most successful to date. I am so thankful he was referred to me by my pain physician.

Dr. Pirris operated on me years ago and now that I am having "changes", I have had to return. Dr Pirris is "honest" and will not operate for the money. Dr. Pirris seems to look at you as a person and not a pay check and emphasizes that he might not be able to help you. He even out and out stated that he refuses to do one particular procedure because he does not believe it is "safe". Waiting for test results to know if he can help.

I had a great experience with Dr Stephen M Pirris. He came highly recommended to install a Boston Scientific Spinal Cord Stimulator in my back to curtail my acute sciatic pain after I had a successful trial with my pain doctor. The entire process from start to my post operative visit this week was excellent, but more importantly, the procedure, the post op expectations and interaction with his team and the tests at St Vincent's Southside was prompt and very professional. Dr. Pirris prefers to use the open back procedure ( 4" incision) rather than orthoscopic because it allows him to assure that the paddle and leads are more secure. Made sense to me and to my surprise I never had any pain from the upper back incision at all which is typically the selling point of doing an orthoscopic procedure. The entire experience with Dr Pirris and his staff was exceptional and I would use him again if need be. By the way, the stimulator is the bomb. No more pain down my legs.

I had 2 previous back surgeries of which never did help me get out of pain. I have had Sciatic pain since 2004 and been on pain meds I took 2-3 times daily. My life was in a fog all the time. have to live like this for the remainder of my life. I was using Jacksonville Pain clinic and one of the doctors I saw one day suggested I go and see Dr Stephen Pirris. This had to be the best referral I have ever had in my life. Upon the first visit my husband and I knew that Dr Pirris was one of a kind and he knew what he was doing and what he could do to help me. After a battery of Xrays, MRI and nerve conducting test the next visit showed me that I did not have to live in the pain any longer. In June 2017 I had a 8 hour surgery and am pleased to say that I am no longer living in pain and am no longer on any pain meds for the first time since 2004. My quality of life is 100% better. I owe my new life to Dr PIrris and will be forever grateful to him and his nurse Sherri Kimes. I… cannot say enough about his professionalism and his knowledge in his field. I am still in my recovery period an d will be for awhile longether but to be able to say I am living without pain is a wonderful thing. I have done the recovery of this surgery without being on pain meds and just by using Muscle Relaxers. I know have my mind back that is not in a fog all the time from being on pain meds.

Dr. Pirris is an answer to prayer. My 83-year-old Mother was bound for a wheelchair a year ago and now she is walking around without pain and has a new lease and attitude on life! She is also a pilot and flying her airplanes again, able to pass the required FAA physical. We are so very grateful for this gifted surgeon. He used Google Glass during a 9 hour operation. My mother was broad-sided in a car accident and underwent two previous surgeries where cages and titanium screws were inserted in her spine. She also had severe curvature of the spine. After suffering ten years with excruciating pain, she was rejected as hopeless by three top-rated doctors in Volusia County. In desperation, we went to the Mayo Clinic where Dr. Pirris worked before his partners asked him to join St. Vincent's last summer. In our first interview, he examined the MRIs and made the casual comment if she were younger, he could re-arrange her bones, but this would be very delicate work with brittle… bones and went into great detail about how he could fix her. (He can rearrange bones??!!!!!) His knowledge and professionalism was outstanding and the way we were treated was wonderful. We had a lot of experience with doctors by then and knew we had just won the neurosurgeon lottery! Additionally, we observed and queried his staff; they all had the highest praise and respect and many left Mayo last year to follow and work for him in his new office. This man is humble about his extraordinary abilities and expertise and the amazing results he achieved. His manner is delightful. Our family is so grateful and feel we were granted a huge privilege and were honored to have crossed paths with this wonderful and dedicated doctor.

I broke my spine in 2 places falling from my attic landing on garage floor, Shands saved my life but had a hard time scheduling a surgery date I was scared because if I was to move the wrong way I could be paralyzed. I couldn't take the pain any longer so I went to St. Vincent's SS ER I told my friend who works at Mayo I was there she said ask for Dr.Pirris he just left Mayo will it was my lucky day he was on call. I had my surgery 2 days later. He is kind, listens and answers any questions we had. I went this past Wednesday for my last follow up appointment. I hugged him and thanked him for saving me. If you EVER need a Neurological Surgeon please request Dr. Pirris I guarantee you won't be disappointed. His PA Sherri is great too! Thank you to ALL Dr. Pirris staff they are AWESOME!

Dr. Pirris took on my neurological problem, which was massive, when no other Dr. would even see me- due to a major butchering I received elsewhere. He is ingenious, kind & totally thorough. I can still walk due to his care. I would Highly recommend him.

Flew Boston to JAX to see Dr. Pirris for a second opinion. After a good meeting with Dr. Pirris he finally identified my problem that I had from my surgery at MGH in Boston. He explained in detail what had to be done and that I would possibly need another surgery to fix the problem. After seeing several top doctors in Boston, Dr. Pirris is the only one who identified my problem and I am greatful to him. He is very pleasent and listened to me patiently. I am so thankful I met with Dr. Pirris.

Dr. Pirris is kind, caring and very professional. He displayed a true concern for my condition and follows through completely with his statements.He listened to and was willing to treat me when other physicians wouldn't, all with a successful outcome.
