Dr. Stephen Gregory Portera, MD

I hope you don’t want to ask questions because that’s another appointment you have to make.

While Dr. Portera is a kind person, my overall experience (5 months now) has been less than desirable. I am almost always there for 2+ hours, waiting at least an hour past my appointment time to see him. My condition is a mystery to Dr. Portera, although he can clearly identify that there is in fact a problem. I do not feel that he has sufficiently explored causes nor treatments. I've spent hundreds of dollars just to go to his office every six weeks and have him increase dosage of a medicine that is not working, and tell me he doesn't know what else to try. As the person suffering from this issue, I have spent considerable time trying to research different causes and medications, but when I want to try something different I just play a ridiculous game of phone tag with his nurses. Just today, his nurse finally called me back a few hours after I initially called and I missed the call (I work as well). I quickly returned the call to find out she was gone for the day at 1:30pm and no one… could help me until after the weekend on Monday. There is no actual concern or interest in curing or treating me, instead they are just going through the motions and collecting from my insurance.

No bedside manner, doesnt listen, quite rude actually

on my 1st visit, he found my problem, set up surgery, & now I'm recovering & on the road to a much better life, thanks to his expertise. I couldn't be happier with his service or any of his staff. There are all so helpful & caring.

I have had interstitial cystitis for five years. I recently moved to the area and had tried several different techniques and prescribed meds with very little success. When I saw Dr. Portera he understood and talked to me about this disease. He prescribed me a new med that he said he has had lots of success. I have had very little problems with IC since I started seeing Dr. Portera.

Dr. Portera performed my lapariscopic complete hysterectomy, and did an excellent job. He is the best UROGYN. He is genuinely concerned with all patients, and always does his very best to ensure a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan. He is not cut happy, and will do all humanly possible to serve his patients as though they are family! He is very well respected by all physicians and considered the top in his field.

Dr. Portera is an excellent doctor. He is very informative about your diagnosis and options in treating same. Have been going to Dr. Portera for 4 years and would never consider changing physicians. He is tops in my opinion.

I had hurt my back, and post hysterectomy, i started to have pelvic organ prolapse. I was scared to death. I went to Dr. Portera who put my fears at ease and told me he could fix this. He did excellent surgery. No complications. Everything is great. Just like he said. Dr. Portera and his staff are compassionate and very helpful. My cousin was probably his very next patient. She's happy, too. They are awesome.
