Dr. Stephen John Sahlstrom, MD

If I could give 10 stars I would. He saved my life!

Dr. Sahlstrom was the surgeon that placed a catheter in my abdomen for dialysis. After I had terrible pain and bleeding for quite some time. I had profuse bleeding one evening and went to the ER. Dr. Sahlstrom was called and said he would be right in. I lay on the table waiting until the following morning. The ER nurses had saved all my bloody bandages to show him how much I was bleeding. The Dr. Looked at the bandages and stated that it was all old blood and said that I would be fine. The nurse stated that of course the blood looked old because we waited all night for him to come in. He did not even check to see if there was any possible problem. When I finally went in to start training for my at home dialysis, the nurse was unable to extract the fluids she had put into my catheter so we went to see Dr. Sahlstrom once again. After waiting for an unreasonable amount of time, he entered the room and made an insulting comment to me. He then just talked with us for a short time… and then said we needed to make another appointment to see him. My husband was so upset by this point he decided to take me back to the dialysis training nurse and tell her what was going on. After talking with her I was sent to another Dr.. It was later discovered that when inserting the catheter he has perforated my colon and I had a severe infection. I had to go into surgery to have the catheter removed along with my appendix and had to have my abdomen cleaned out as much as possible. Because of Dr. Sahlstroms error and complete disregard for my well being I was no longer able to do dialysis at home. Neither before or since working with Dr. Sahlstrom have I had such a poor experience with a doctor. He is very arrogant and has very poor bedside manner. I have talked with several other people that have also had terrible experiences with this doctor. I would never recommend him and would definitely warn others not to go to him. This is one doctor that should not be allowed to practice.
