Dr. Stephen Michael Sanders, MD

Dr. Sanders is a nice man, but my baby and I needed more than a good bedside manner. We both almost died in his care and it has taken many years to come to terms with everything that happened. I ended up with terrible PTSD & almost didn't have anymore children because of our frightening experience w/ this doctor/hospital. Believe me, I tried for years to give him & IHC the benefit of the doubt. Ultimately, it wasn't my fault that he didn't perform an emergency C-section (which he completely agreed I needed). Apparently, there was ONE Anesthesiologist @ the hospital during my many hours of labor and he was "unavailable." I was admittedly screaming in pain and simply told "you better be quiet, you are scaring the other women in L & D." Sanders ended up reaching in and tearing my baby girl out, which caused me to hemorrhage (I felt every everything :(. She was covered in bruises from head to toe & struggled to breathe for some time. I didn't even get to see her until the next day.… Unfortunately, Dr. Sanders didn't notice that I had hemorrhaged where he tore my uterus, so he went home to get some sleep. Only to be called back in 4 hours later because I wasn't doing well. My husband noticed a pool of blood under my bed and my hematocrit ended up being below 5??. Three nurses couldn't find my BP. I remember being in and out of consciousness, asking my husband if I was dying. I also remember Sanders pacing back and forth in my room. I could tell that he was genuinely worried and I was pretty out of it. After passing out the next day, I was told "that the risks of a blood transfusion outweighed the benefits @ that point and to go home and lay down/rest for at least a month."?? I couldn't believe what he was saying! Seriously?!? With a newborn AND having just been on 7 consecutive weeks of bedrest!! :( My mental health was declining by the minute & I had never been depressed or anxious, until that delivery. That delivery literally changed me forever and not in a good way, I was forever altered and had to fight for my life and my relationships with those I hold dearly. I ended up leaving the hospital in Cedar City 4 days later, with my hematocrit at SEVEN! THANK GOODNESS, our daughter was happy & chill, because I literally had to rest for months following her delivery. Thinking back, I believe that Dr. Sanders had too much on his plate/shoulders. He was THE DOCTOR to see, everyone wanted him to deliver them. Unfortunately, He was rushing through deliveries (my close friend had her own frightening experience.) Dr. Sanders made a simple mistake during her delivery, which resulted with a full term fetal demise. It just baffles me that he hasn't been sued for malpractice, or maybe he has??? Hindsight, my husband said he would have sued. Mainly to help Sanders see that he needed to slow down and take his time with his patients. It was strange, when I went back to his office to get my patient file two yrs later, Dr. Sanders was clearly nervous and so shocked to see me. He said that he was told I had moved away? ?????He then PERSONALLY handled printing my chart/files. We noticed later, that there were actually pages missing and pertinent information omitted. I can go on about my EXTREME ephesiatomy that was stitched incorrectly, or the fact that he'd have me come in to his office after hours (w/his wife in the room) to remove huge blood clots. It was like he was secretly keeping an extra eye on me, because he knew he had messed up, that something DID GO WRONG. I never questioned him, but I should have. The Anesthesiologist actually came in to see us a day after the delivery and apologized. He said he should have been there for us, because I needed a C-Section. Anyway, my therapist recommended that I leave a review. It has felt a bit therapeutic to do so, but also makes me feel bad, because I don't like dwelling on the negative or the past, OR making people feel bad for their mistakes. Dr. Sanders he has hepled MANY women get pregnant and stay pregnant, which is amazing! We all know that no one is perfect and we all have bad days. I just wish that my first experience with labor and delivery had gone differently. Thank God I finally got the guts up to have another baby, in another state. What a different, yet BEAUTIFUL experience my second delivery was!

Dr. Sanders was my doctor for my daughter's delivery and was great. I continued seeing him for paperwork smears and birth control and loved him. He placed an our for me and when it came time to take it out he couldn't get it. So I came back in for an ultrasound to make sure it hadn't migrated. While doing the ultrasound he said it was still exactly where it was supposed to be and hadn't moved, he said he must have cut the strings to short and would have to do what they classify as a minor surgery to remove it. He told me it costs $700 to remove if insurance doesn't cover it. I asked why I would have to pay for it if he cut the strings too short and it was his mistake. He said he never had told me that but my fiance was in the room and mum was on the phone and they also recall him saying that. He said fine we will see what your insurance covers and waive the rest if it doesn't cover it all. I then got a call from a collections asking for $250 and so I called Sanders office and… it was for the surgery and I told billing he said it would be waived. (I had called previously to set up an appointment because I am pregnant and despite the falling out still loved Sanders and wanted him to deliver my next child) the billing lady said she would talk to Sanders and calle back. She called back and said he did recall saying he would waive it and so he would clear it up with collections but that he didn't want to see me as a patient anymore. I think it is very unprofessional that he messed up And fired me as a patient because of his mistake. I loved him as a doctor and thought he always had my best interest at heart but when it came down to it he didn't ever care. And doesn't want to see me anymore because of a matter that was taken care of.

Dr. Sanders is the best, and most caring doctor I’ve seen. He always listens to my concerns and tries his best to work on things with me. His sense of humor makes for the best visits. He truly cares about each and every one of his patients. He has a heart of gold and you can tell he loves being an OBGYN!

Dr. Sanders is wonderful! He is such a kind man and took the time to listen to my concerns. I was very comfortable and felt safe having him deliver my baby.

Dr. Sanders if by far the best OBGYN I have ever been to. He is so kind and listens to all of your concerns and addresses them before you have to ask. I highly recommend Dr. Sanders and his staff.

Been to lots of OBGYN Dr's in my lifetime. Dr. Sanders is by far the best male Dr. I have had the pleasure of seeing. Very professional, understanding, friendly and actually has a sense of humor. He and his staff do not give you the impression that it is just another day and you are taking up their time. I have and will recommend him to all my family and friends.
