Dr. Stephen Ross Shorofsky, MD

Dr. Shorofsky is a good doctor. He is knowledgeable, professional, and thorough. However unfortunately, as good as doctor Shorofsky is, his front office staff is extremely disappointing. My husband and I have been patients if Dr. Shorofsky for 20 years and like him a lot. Recently I called to make an appointment, and the receptionist took my information and said somebody would call back. Nobody did so I called back the next day. The receptionist was rude and hung up on me without making an appointment. Quite a shocking behavior from a medical office. I don’t know if Dr. Shorofsky is aware of how his receptionist treats patients, but if I cannot make an appointment to see my primary doctor, when I need to, what is the purpose of me having one? The front office staff is the frontline to any medical office. Hanging up on patients and not making medical appointments, makes you wonder if the front office staff even cares for their patients.

Dr. Shorofsky greeted me with a smile and a handshake. He gave me a chance first to let him know what was happening with me regarding the A-Fib attacks. He would occasionally ask questions to gather more information, before he took his turn to explain the ablation procedure, or even to let me know if I was a candidate. I was, and his explanation in detail, was what I wanted, but didn't expect some of the (scary to me) risks. I was made to feel like a person, and not just another body walking into his office. I like to joke around (which I do out of nervousness), however I felt Dr. Shorofsky did not share the same sense of humor. That bothered me at first, but I realized this situation is a serious one, and his job, was to inform me the best that he could on the subject and procedure. I'm sure he has a sense of humor, and I did see a smile here and there; however, I realize now the seriousness of this condition and procedure, and the exam room was not a place for clowning around, no… matter how nervous I was. He was EXCELLENT in his demeanor, and delivery of the information he gave to me. He in no way rushed the visit, in his tone of voice or his body language. I know this doctor is a very busy man, but he sat totally relaxed in his chair, and not one did he give me the impression that he wanted this visit to end until he knew I had asked all the questions that came up as a result of the discussion. I left, wanting the procedure done, but with all the risks involved, I need time to think and pray and hash this over a bit, before I say "Let's do it!" He was perfectly fine with that, and even encouraged me to do just what I said I wanted to do. I want my A-Fib attacks to stop. There is no 100% guarantee, and Dr. Shorofsky made that clear; however, he did give the strong impression that his personal experience doing this on his patience, has had very good success. I'm glad I was recommended to see him by my present cardiologist. I just need to think on this and let it simmer a bit before I make the final decision. I do understand that this is something that will not go away on it's own, and will increase as I age. My lingering question that I'm sure everyone thinks, but maybe doesn't say? "Is Dr. Shorofsky THE BEST doctor to perform this procedure on me?" I'm not an easy patient, have had lots of health problems, etc., but somehow, I feel that he "IS" the best one for me, as he wasted no time jotting down things I said in relationship to problems I've had healthwise, and in other surgical procedures, along with my long list of allergies. He seemed to make sure he gathered enough information,and will not jump into this if I say yes, until he knows that all involved in assisting him during the procedure will KNOW ALL ABOUT me and my issues before he performs this procedure. All in all, I was very pleased with the visit, even though it left me unsettled, which I think is totally normal.
