Dr. Stephen Lewis Strout

Yesterday I had a periodontal cleaning appointment with Dr. Stephen Strout. Prior to that appointment I asked if they accept my Aetna dental discount plan, to which I was informed they do. When I arrived for my appointment Dr. Strout was not at the office, but rather Dr. Marquez, who is not a periodontist, performed an oral evaluation. Following that Deana, the hygienist, performed the periodontal cleaning. Because the cost seemed very high, relative to what I had been paying for similar services, I questioned whether my discount plan had been applied; I was told it was. Since my medical plan includes reimbursement for dental services, I asked for a statement describing the services performed and the NPI# of the doctor; both of which I need for reimbursement. The doctor absolutely refused to provide her NPI#...she said she didn’t feel right doing so. Once home I contacted the discount plan provider to inquire whether Dr. Strout’s office used my plan. I was informed that Dr. Strout’s… office, St. Augustine Center for Dental Excellence, is NOT in the plan. The office personnel have lied, and the attending doctor is afraid to provide her NPI# for reasons I don’t even what to speculate on. That was my first and last visit with that office. If I could provide negative stars I would.

Horrible Dr. Did not even do full mouth exam. Told me his assoc. in office could do the work he recommend. I stated why would I pay your assoc. who has NEVER seen me, AND I already have a Family dentist which is what your assoc. is. I was told by my dentist needed a periodontist. Never went back!!

Don't go! Horrible doctor- had to have surgical procedures redone because he doesn't know how to do gum grafts and periodontal surgery! If you have anything done- you will need it redone!

He explained my problem to me very clearly and gave me a few payment options as well. His staff worked out my insurance for me completely.
