Dr. Stephen Bruce Strum, MD

After being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2003 I was advised by 3 seperate Urologists to undergo 3 different forms of treatment (radiation, surgery, internal seed plant) simply because that was what they "specialised" in. I quickly realised that these so called specialists were not offering advice that was in my best interests but their own best interests. I decided to research PCa myself and underwent "watchful waiting" for the next couple of years. During this time I was fortunate to be introduced to Dr Strum through another PCa patient and subsequently became a patient of his. Over this same period my PSA started to rise and in consultation with Dr Strum I decided to undergo HIFU at a clinic in Germany in 2006. My PSA has been +/- 0.2 for the last 12 years and I would consider myself in complete remission. In 2013 Dr Strum suggested I undergo a "Full Body Scan" at Body Scan International located at Irvine, Ca. This scan located a tumur in the right upper lobe of my… lung. With the help of Dr Strum we sourced an expert Thoracic Surgeon in Sydney, Australia - I am Australian and live there. In 2014 a successful right upper lobectomy was carried out and and it was determined that it was NOT a secondary cancer from my original Prostate Cancer. Throughout all of this Dr Strum has been my primary "go to" cancer doctor. I maintain that without him I probably would not be here today. He has provided guidance, thoughtful expert advice and compassion. I know I am not alone in the cancer patient world when I say that I have experience very average doctors. The world would be a vastly far better place if there were more doctors with the qualities of Dr Stephen B Strum. I am happy to provide my name. I got on board with Dr. Strum when I was about to go into a very risky surgery for prostate cancer. He recommended that I ought to get answers to important questions, like "is this surgery likely to cure your cancer?" I took his advice and stopped the surgery. I have been getting Stephen's advice ever since. Dr. Strum has looked at my case in depth and provided very good, well supported advice at every step of the way for three years now, including advice on diagnostic testing, drugs, surgical options, and maintaining overall health. His file on me is voluminous. He reads my blood factors and provides advice on how to get them in balance like a mechanic does with a car, but to the nth power. He puts me in a much better position to live long or conquer this cancer.

I have known Dr Stephen Strum since 1985 when I was working as a clinical pharmacist in a tertiary care hospital in Los Angeles. His compassion and genuine care for the patient is what impressed me the most at the time. As a clinical pharmacist I used to read tens of patient consultations each day. His self typed notes were always a joy to read. His attention to detail and straightforward way of communicating with other health care providers had a strong impression on me as a young pharmacist. He used to place a copy of the latest published data for his recommended therapy. At the time (pre-google) that was not very common or easy. During my 15 years as a pharmacist in that hospital, I had the opportunity to closely observe over 500 or maybe 1000 physicians and the way they treated their patients. Out of the many numbers of physicians that I came to know very well, there are only three physicians that I would go to or refer my family members to them. One is a cardiologist, the other… is a nephrologist and Dr Strum is the Hematology oncologist. Throughout the years since both of our departures from that hospital, I have always kept in touch with him because of who he is. He is a true patient advocate. He takes care of the person, not just the tumor. More recently, I am lucky to have him as a consultant in my care as a prostate cancer patient. He has been a beacon of light in a very dark and confusing field. After my diagnosis at UCLA, the surgeon wanted to perform surgery the next day, the radiologist had persuaded me to forgo surgery and proceed with radiation therapy. You cannot imagine the dark thoughts and feeling of despair and confusion I had with my diagnosis. How do you trust the surgeon or the radiologist to do the best and the right thing for your care? This is my life with 2 teenage kids and a wife on line. Dr Strum recommended a PSMA PET CT scan that changed the course of my therapy. Something that was only available at UCLA, but not recommended by my own UCLA doctors, because I did not exactly meet all the criteria for the scan. I am forever thankful for is forefront thoughtfulness and caring approach. He is a true humanitarian, I have learned a lot from him, not just about prostate cancer, but life as well.

You will not find a more dedicated physician that is willing to give you his time and expertise regarding Prostate Cancer. You MUST do your part and follow Dr. Strums well researched and documented recommendations, however. He did threaten to fire me if I was not willing to stay in compliance with his protocol. That said, he opened the door for me to be proactive with my health condition and overall general health, as well. After being diagnosed in 2006 with prostate cancer, I tried some alternative treatments but my disease eventually spread outside of the gland. Dr. Strums expert guidance, prescribing and monitoring of my condition has greatly extended my life and I am still hopeful to have complete remission. He is and has been for a long time, cutting edge in his field.

I Have had the good fortune to be treated by Dr. Strum, who is very knowledgeable, stays up to date with new techniques and is dedicated to his patients. My prostate cancer was advanced and without going into all the history, he has directed an approach that has reduced my PSA to a negligible number. He is impatient with patients who do not take their health as seriously as he does. In my and my wife's journey down the path of cancer treatment, we have found many in the profession who are not informed and not particularly interested in their patients. Dr Strum stands out as a beacon in a sea of complacency, incompetence and apathy.

I have been a patient of Dr. Stephen Strum for going on 20 years, for the treatment of Prostate Cancer. Dr. Strum has been the reason that I am currently in very good health, and have never needed to have serious invasive treatment such as surgery or radiation treatments, even though 3 doctors told me I would need surgery in 6 months or I would not survive for a year. As I said that was nearly 20 years ago I find it absolutely incredulous that someone could have written such negative comments about Dr. Stephen Strum. He is considered by both doctors and patients to be a "world class Physician" who really cares for his patients. It is obvious to me that the reviews you have published have most likely been written by the same person, who apparently has a personal vendetta against Dr. Strum. I would like to know who this person is, who has taken the time to present distorted facts about Dr. Strum, and his "staff." Dr. Strum is one of the warmest, most caring people in the… medical world, and his "staff" consists of one person, Miwha Strum who also is a very warm caring person, who treats all patients in the most supportive manner possible. I think it behooves you as a website that is willing to publish anonymous comments about Doctors, to be more careful in verifying what you print. Someone desiring to make Dr. Strum look bad, when in reality he is one of the best in the world from every aspect of medicine, has a platform with you, without verification. Dr. Strum seems uncharacteristically ego-driven, needing considerable patting on the back.

Excellent Doc. if your prepared to be a empowered patient. Is on leading edge of advancement knowledge. Expects patient to be part of the team. Is in the top percentile on PCa specialists. Is impatient with bureacrates, and the system. Is a leader NOT a follower in PCa tx. Very well respected by peers prepared to try and apply treatmts based on his experience and logic.Don't expect him to hold your hand but he will lay out the tools you must select to resolve our issues.

What a horrible person and physician. This hateful man really needs to retire SOON!!
