Dr. Stephen Woodrow Welsh, MD

Dr. Welsh is a gifted doctor. He is caring and confident. He has been my GI doctor for 30 years. I am fortunate to have him taking care of my health needs.

He is very informative and thorough. . Takes a lot of time with you. Talks to you Till you understand.

Dr Welsh is very Thorough and takes his time with you. I have always been very happy and satisfied with my care.

Dr. Welsh has taken care of me for years. I have had endoscopic and colonoscopy procedures among other treatments. What I love about Dr. Welsh beyond his expertise is that he pus me at ease, sits and talks with me and looks me right in the eye when speaking with me. He makes clear explanations and he has a great sense of humor.

Dr. Welsh takes pleasure in insulting his patients that are overweight and loves to tell you how fat you are. He seems to have a phobia about overweight people and reminds me of a school yard bully who loves to pick on people who cannot fight back.

I have seen him for the last time. I took my wife with me the last time, (last week) so that she could see that I was not making up things about Dr. Welsh. The nurse came in and was very nice, but Dr. Welsh came in and the first thing he said with a smile, was "boy you are fat!" My wife was shocked when she heard this. Dr. Welsh then recanted his diagnosis of me from 15 years ago and told me I had nothing to worry about, but we should do some more tests to see why my liver enzymes stay elevated. I told him what he could do with his comments about me and we left. I will never return there. He apparently finds overweight people disgusting and loves to make fun of them. If you are overweight and do not like it thrown in your face, do not go to this man.

I LOVE Dr. Stephen Welch. Truly a great Dr. He explains everything and answers ALL my questions, all without ego. He is a very kind man. If I don't fully understand something he will draw me a picture. He has a positive attitude. He saved my mother's life not once, but several times.Multiple surgeries had to be preformed on her and he was there for each of them. I can NOT say enough kind things about him.

Dr. Welsh is great. His receptionist at front window, not so much. She is not friendly, and when I have called, she made me feel like I was an inconvenience. When I went to the appointment, she didn't smile in person, either. I had to "make" her smile. The wait time in office was awful, and I was the last patient of the day. Just didn't feel welcomed. But Dr. Welsh and his nurse, Rita, are absolutely fantastic.

I have been in and out of the hospital several times this past year for pancreatitis. While in the hospital I was very pleased with Dr. Welsh, and his recommendations of treatment. I was eventual transferred to Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis for surgery and several more months of treatment. My discontent began when dealing with his office staff follow up care. I am not able to get prescriptions refilled when needed, they often do not return my phone calls and do not keep accurate records on prescriptions they dispense. In the past year I have doctored with multiple surgeons, infectious disease doctors, radiologists, gastrointestinal doctors and general physicians and I have never encountered a problem with a physician or a physician's staff until dealing with Dr. Welsh's nurse. Dr. Welsh has given me excellent care, but his nurse and front office staff quite frankly could not care less about the quality of care the patients are given. Quality nurses and staff can not be… that hard to find considering every other physicians office I've been to has found hard working, caring employees.
