Dr. Steven Auster

Dr. Auster himself has been perfect for our family. He is a very good listener, and takes time to answer questions thoughtfully. He is used to dealing with people with anxiety, and remains very level-headed. He sees through bullsh*t and tells you like it is. I would call him conservative in his approach. He does not rush to increase dosage or change prescriptions, so make sure you are taking good notes with observations over time. He pays very close attention to your concerns, but encourages patience in order to make the right decisions on meds. I appreciate that so much. Appointments are short when things are going well, long when there is much to discuss. He is efficient with his and his patients' time. We have had very good results with a complicated AuDHD female teen profile.

Horrible service

The SORRIEST excuse for a "Psychiatric Practice" I have ever visited! If I could give this place a negative rating, I would. I waited three months for an appointment. I initially went in for an intake with a doctor whose name now eludes me. He was fairly personable and recommeded that I see Dr Auster. Another two weeks went by and I finally got to see Dr Auster. He did not say hello nor shake my hand, just "I know all about you from the intake so let's get down to business!" I have Mental Health issues and have taken illicit painkillers to help deal with my extreme anxiety. Dr Auster was more concerned with my "drug use" rather than the reasons WHY I was taking the pills to begin with. Everytime I tried to get a word in edgeways, he interrupted me and said "we don't have a lot of time to talk." He referred me to several REHABS without addressing my anxiety and anxiety-induced depression. The appointment lasted a total of eight minutes! A few days later, I called to cancel my next… appointment with Dr Auster. A very snippy and officious receptionist told me "you can't just cancel an appointment with a doctor, especially if you are on a 'treatment plan!.' I demanded that the director call me back, which he did. The director was relatively sympathetic, but not apologetic. Another thing; perhaps this is due to my being used to going to private offices (usually on the side or upper floor from the Psychiatrist's residence), but Comprehensive Psychiatric Associates seemed very "assembly line" in its intake and outtake of patients. The waiting room at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a much larger facility, has never been as bustling. Please avoid at all costs! Thank you.

Dr. Auster only will write a Rx if you make an appointment to the point where he requires you to see him much more than necessary.Don't be late paying you bill, the office is voracious about collection and applying late fees.Clearly revenue is a major motivator in the management of this office practice.

Dr. Auster seemed genuinely concerned about my daughter's home and school life, etc rather than just medicating him for his ADD and anxiety. Would take my child to see him again.
