About 830am i called Dr Byers office. I had previously had a cleaning there almost a year ago but they seemed to recognize me.Not a place with high turnover as my last dentist did, including the dentist that I had liked in that prior business. In addition to the cleaning I had had x-rays and he expressed concern that my top front bridge, the one with my biting vs grinding teeth, might snap off at the gum line and suggested a new bridge in the next six months. Like most, I avoid pain so did nothing more. About ten days ago, I could no longer bite food off and then grind it with my molars as that bridge had become loose. This meant that instead of being in front of my lower set of teeth so the top and bottom incisors could cut meat, carrots etc lkke sccissors, two hard sufaces with sharp edges, the top would land, in mos t cases, right on top of the lower incisors..- no scissor action. What the heck. I could (and did) simply cut off pieces of food to be ground by the back… tee th, the molars. The top front teeth looked ok when I talked or smiled and I handled their primary function with knife and fork. When I went to visi t my daughter though, and told herIcould not handle corn on the cob and a salad would be better than a sandwich as I would have to cut up the sandwich instead of just biting it like most people, she really got worried, espec. after a whiff of my breath and made me promise to go get the bridge fixed. So, I made the call like I said and was told that Dr Brys could check it out and be able to know what was involved before just answering questions without relevant info. Well bridges can be expensive, espec. one with six or morth teeth so I told Dr. Brys of my concern. He studied the X-rays, had molding material to make models of my top and bottom teeth positioned to work. HE IS FIRST DENTIST THAT i HAVE SEEN ABLE TO TO THIS AS HE HAS HIS OWN DENTAL LABORATORY. So, he said I really needed a ffull new bridge, that would be best. I told him that I couln't afford a full bridge so was there somebing, brace or ?(being ignorant of what was involved, I even asked about using the denture fixative adhesive to keep the existing loose bridge in place. He looked at the X-rays and in my mouth, He said, wellI could try something that MAY give you a year or two more with the old bridge it you like. I said sure, and he went to work.He is a considerate person who designed his ss patients' operating rooms with panels ont he ceiling which show fish and butterflies, colorful stuff to help distract you from the pain radiating from your mouth. it helps. He worked on me for a long time, polisning one obstinate tooth after anchoring the wobbly plate.. With various mental distractions, thework was nearly complete when a pain of the aged, a terrible charley horse hit my calf and having to rise up while he was still working. He got the drill/grinder out in time but I upset a tray of tools. Upset,no, concerned for me and quick with relief. His stafff is as humane as he is. Your welfare is important and they empathize with your pain . If you have to drive a half hr or more....its worth it.Get the best in knowledge as good and better than most and a almost fatherly or brotherly love and desire to help. Try Stephen Byers.
