Dr. Steven P. Cohen, MD

Dr. Steven Paul Cohen is extremely knowledgeable about his field of expertise. As an infantryman, I came in after a deployment with large amounts of pain. He explained to me why I was experiencing this pain, and recommended me a path of recovery that worked well for me. Strongly recommend him as a Doctor to anyone who is unsure

Dr. Steven Cohen is hands down the worst doctor I have ever seen. He was short with me, disrespectful, dismissive, condescending, and argumentative. I have had a few experiences with doctors who lack good bedside manner (and I completely understand that people have bad days and that great doctors might not be the best with patients), but this was on a completely different level. He argued with me about what sciatica was, despite me having a herniated disc and having had about 10 other doctors and physical therapists confirm that I suffer from sciatica. He suggested medication and then could not even tell me what it was or what class of medication it was. My GP told me to see a pain specialist and when I inquired about steroid injections (the main/only thing they seem to actually do) Dr. Cohen rolled his eyes at me as to make me feel inferior for not knowing that steroid injections are less effective after surgery as it doesn’t travel well through scar tissue (how would a layperson know… this, and why did Dr. Cohen have to be so condescending about it?). He showed up 45 minutes after my appointment time and then after 15 minutes he said he had other places to be and walked out. I went in seeking help for my chronic pain and was insulted, disrespected, and left utterly baffled that Northwestern Hospital hired, and continues to employ this man.

Pathetic excuse for a doctor. IMMEDIATELY suggested antidepressants for back issues and pain. Did literally nothing. Sent me back to my personal doctor and told him to prescribe me medication. And charged me 500 bucks to do NOTHING. Absolutely pathetic. In my opinion this guy doesn't care about a patient at all. it seems like he just wants to push antidepressants. Which is the common big pharma solution these days. 0 Stars for this quack

Real simple....FIND ANOTHER DR. Hard to even talk to guy.. lot's of other pain Dr's out there. Dr Cheng cleveland clinic for one

This doctor does not listen, does not care, is rushed, and treats his practice like a conveyor belt with virtually the same thing recommended in every case (nerve blocks). Not apologetic when he makes mistakes just says "these things happen." In ten years of getting treatment at the Hopkins hospital doctors I have never had a bad experience except with this doctor. I gave it three tries. Same rubbish every time. I'm out.

Guy has no personality. He was hard to get information out of. He kept moving back my appointment. Doesnt return calls.

Dr. Cohen has a superb bedside manner. He made me feel at ease and explained my problem in terms that I could easily understand. He was patient, provided relevant analogies, and suggested several different treatments. We chose to do an injection and try a medication, and it worked fantastic!

Well, I think Dr. Cohen knows his stuff. He was able to rule out a diagnosis that the doctors in my home state were telling me I had (turns out, I don't, and have had it confirmed by another experienced physician in DC). He did NOT offer great treatment options, but he did promptly refer me to the other two tests that could be of use in understanding my condition further. I was specifically impressed with his Fellow, who was very helpful and helped Dr. Cohen understand my case. Some would be put off by Dr. Cohen, but I felt that he was simply straight forward and doing his job. He isn't the most friendly guy, simply telling me that I might be SOL and be in the 5-15% of people who get stuck in pain after a bad surgery. But, if I had better test results prior to the appt. I have no doubt he would have offered me more information. He was a worthwhile person to see in an attempt to gain another opinion on my diagnosis.

Dr. Cohen and his band of "keystone cops" remind me of teenagers on cocaine. He and his "crew" had a single minded, glassy-eyed focus on the "study" they are involved in and zero regard for the fact that they are dealing with a human being as opposed to a piece of meat or a pin cushion. There was zero regard for the fact that I am a customer and a patient and that poking someone with a sharp piece of mental for the sake of getting equipment in place properly is not OK - no warning, no careful attention to the patient, just a strong jab and hold and when I complained, Dr. Cohen made excuses and justified the behavior. I have an extremely high tolerance for pain and this was awful even for me. I would feel very afraid for someone with a low pain tolerance. I am very surprised that that Dr. Cohen is allowed to practice at John's Hopkins.

My spouse had thoracic and lumbar fusions late last year. He was referred to"pain management", Dr Stephen P. Cohen at Johns Hopkins. Our insurance deemed hIs procedure, radio frequency ablation, as experimental. So the first words out if his mouth when he comes in "I don't think I can help you, you need rehabilitation." HE NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT THE NEW MRI!!!! Waste of JH resources and a waste of our time!
