Dr. Hartline and his team are the best

As a new patient I couldn’t get an appointment until 3 months later and it wasn’t with the doctor. When I call a month ahead of the appointment to cancel, I can’t ever get through to a real person on the phone, really. ??

I had to wait 6 months to get my “new patient” appointment and told after the appointment I would be considered established and appointments would be easier to get, especially sick visits. Unfortunately, that was not true. Three months later I needed a sick appointment. I called first thing on a Monday and couldn’t get in until Friday! I couldn’t wait 5 days and ended up opting for OTC meds since he wouldn’t prescribe anything based on symptoms. The following week my symptoms escalated into other symptoms. Again tried to get another appointment. He was unavailable until the following week, PLUS he’s off on Wed’s, I guess Sat/Sun isn’t good enough. Urgent care diagnosed strep, double ear infection and thrush. Good thing I wasn’t on my death bed. I miss my dr of 22 years, but I guess they have to retire too. If a dr has so many patients and doesn’t have room for the sick, then it’s time to find another. I guess I’m on the hunt once again.

I like Dr. Hartline a lot, but his practice seems to have gone downhill since he moved out to Edinburgh. You can’t get an appointment with him anymore unless it’s made weeks or months in advance. Even when I specifically requested Dr. Hartline for a sick appointment I was told that I could only see the nurse practitioner or wait over a week to see Dr. Hartline. At the old office I didn’t have any problems getting in to see him either same day or the next day. I used to be able to speak directly with his personal staff, now all calls go through a central line for the entire office. When I was finally able to see him (from an appt made months in advance) I waited 45 minutes to get in the back. The entire visit used to only take 30 minutes from start to finish. I don’t blame Dr. Hartline for this as much as Sentara for their greed in taking on so many patients that the doctors can’t handle it. Bigger Office = more patients = less personalization. Sometimes bigger is not better.

Can't even get through on the phone to make an appointment. Waited on hold 10 minutes before hanging up.

He is genuine, down to earth, thorough and competent. Best Doctor around.

It can be hard to get an appointment to see Dr. Hartline for non-critical issues, but is very helpful when needed
