Dr. Steven L. Kugler

I went to Dr. Kugler initially to get a diagnosis for Tourettes Syndrome. I found him through the Tourettes Association of America (TAA) however it seems he is not listed there anymore. Dr. Kugler did diagnose me with Tourettes Syndrome (TS) and started me shortly after on medication. I was not having very many difficulties with my TS however I did take the medication. Throughout the time I was taking the medication I start developing side effects exaggerating my original symptoms (no fault of Dr. Kugler.) My family and I tried to contact him for help. We eventually were able to get an appointment again. My TS had progressed into affecting my mobility and forcing me to take a medical leave of absence from school my senior year. Dr. Kugler had no understanding of TS effecting mobility and would not hear my concerns. He wanted to keep trying different medications and started not directing conversations towards me but towards my mother. He would not listen or take into account that I… have been sensitive to medications before and that my TS was progressing into loss of mobility most days. Dr. Kugler was adamant that without experimenting with medications there is nothing more to help my TS. I left him not feeling heard and felt defeated. My last appointment with him I had difficulty even walking out of the building. I don’t mean to exaggerate, this was an honest experience. I was able to get a second opinion from another pediatric neurologist recently who said my current state of condition needed more than medication. The new neurologist was able to confirm that solely more medication would not be in my best interest. I was referred to an adult Movement Specialist (MD) who could properly assess me. I was told that my condition was beyond what medication and monitoring could handle. I wrote this review because I understand that Dr. Kugler may be helpful with other conditions. I wanted to say that I did not feel comfortable with him with regards to my Tourette Syndrome and the fact my side affects were not seen as important. I would not recommend Dr. Kugler for treatment in Tourettes Syndrome.

I am so pleased that we found this Doctor for my Dad! He takes time to look at everything carefully and listens to the patient! Love him and appreciate his care of my Dad!!
