Dr. Steven Joseph Lee, MD

Dr Lee is fantastic. For over the past 14 months, I've seen 3 psychiatrists for depression, a condition I'd never experienced in my 46 years alive. The first 2 docs just put me on Prozac and Cymbalta after a 15 minute initial visit, and the 2nd added Adderall when I wasn't improving, even though I'd told her that I was in recovery and wanted to avoid any controlled substances if possible. Dr Lee is such a patient listener, and he was very respectful of my personal philosophy with meds. He gave me a clear, detailed explanation (not in medical jargon but not patronizing either) of what he thought was happening in my body/brain and how different treatment options could help. After telling me which he though were most likely to help, he asked me which I was most comfortable with (Who does that these days?). He said he would email me a copy of instructions, so I spent the entire appointment just conversing with him, instead of scribbling down notes. I left feeling like I actually learned… something about my body and that I was armed with a battle plan waiting in my email inbox. Dr Lee figured out that my depression and fatigue was related to my COVID infection in late 2020, and he treated me with medications that aren't even antidepressants. And NO CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES. One medicine had to be custom made by a specialty pharmacy. I was also surprised that he made recommendations for specific foods, diets and lifestyle changes that I might expect from my therapist or my family doctor back in California, but he said that mental health was much more complicated than just pills made by big pharma. I felt somewhat better after 1 month, and by 2 months, I felt back to my normal self. Not only did my mood and energy improve, but bursitis pain I've had for years that got even worse after I had COVID completely disappeared, and he showed me my blood tests that showed how inflammation in my body was actually going down. Dr Lee is such a kind and compassionate doctor who isn't just a pill pusher, and he seems to be at the cutting edge of psychiatry. It's rare when you don't have to make a choice between a doc who's brilliant versus a doc who's kind and compassionate. CAVEAT: I don't think Dr. Lee is for everybody. He wants his patients to be active in their own treatment and actively participate in making treatment decisions, if he feels there's more than 1 way to skin that cat. I have friends who just want to know "Am I OK?" and "What pill do I need to take?" They're too busy for anything more. If this is your style, Dr. Lee may frustrate you. Also he sees only sees patients a few days a week and is only reachable on M-Th while he is working. He makes this clear because some people have conditions that need 24/7 access to their psychiatrists. It's important to make sure your needs fit the level of care. If availability similar to regular business hours is sufficient for you, Dr Lee is a wonderful psychiatrist!

Dr. Lee is a great doctor. He is also a great human being. He will put his intelligence and education to work for you as well as his sense of refinement, creativity and open mind. He really listens to you and responds to your individual concerns; you can trust that he cares about you as a person and will search for something that will help you - a holistic solution. His medical credentials are unassailable. He has a great sense of humor and his office environment reflects good feeling. It's serene and welcoming; it's empty yet full of hope. He will really help you.

It is frightening to be under dr Lees care and only be able to get a message to him min Thru Thursday. Should anything happen to you there is absolutely no way to reach the Dr. Given the type of practice he has I would not reccommend him

Dr. Lee is by far the most knowledgable psychiatrist I have encountered. It took me 4 attempts- seeing other providers- before connecting with Dr. Lee. I am a well educated person and appreciate a"straight from the hip" approach. I have to respect the intelligence and emotional quotient of a provider in order to feel comfortable in following thier advice. Dr. Lee hits and exceeds both of my personal requirements. Additionally, there has never been an extended time frame for him to get back to me on an unscheduled call in. I highly recommend Dr. Lee!

i have been seeing dr lee for years now and he continues to impress me. He has a gentleness about him that only enhances his professionalism.I always feel that he is LISTENING and that what i say counts in my course of treatment - a rarity in this field.He is respectful and incredibly knowledgable.
