Dr. Steven Leibowitz, MD

Three weeks into my recovery after this doctor removed a cyst from my eye I experienced a major complication. My eye was extremely inflamed, swollen infected and I was in a lot of pain. My eye also looked and felt worse from what he originally removed. I emailed the doctor about my frustration and rescheduling. His response was to see an “immunologist before I see him again.”This was a huge red flag, bc any good compassionate doctor would immediately show you empathy and tell you to reschedule with him. He didn’t. If anything he was trying to make it seem like my complications were not connected to the surgery he performed. This doctor neglected me as a patient, refused to see me again once my complications continued and neither him nor some of his staff apologized for my experience.

Poor bedside manner. Seemed to take offense when walking up on daughter and I hearing his name in our conversation. Don't take things so personal, your a professional after all. All I can say to explain his behavior is he must have a big ego to be so sensitive. Also in marking the correct eye for surgery, my forehead was drawn on in scribbles. Like someone was doodling. Not cool ...strange.

Office full when I got there (8 people), waited one hour 15 minutes. Looked at my eye lids, took photos. Told be to stop taking aspirin for 2 weeks, schedule exam to check peripheral, get medical clearance and do surgery in 2 weeks. I mentioned I need medical clearance first, Told me it was my responsibility to get medical clearance, that he could not request it. I went to see him on advice from another doctor to check to see if I was eligible for insurance covered plastic surgery, What I go was: he did not even check my eyes, but told me to prep for surgery before without even knowing if I would be insured - then wanted me to do his staff's job to apply for medical clearance...I don't know how or what medical codes to use or the reason for surgery or type of surgery. When I questioned him on the medical clearance he got upset, then I told him I did not want the surgery - he never checked my eyes to see if I had a problem, but set up surgery without any medical clearance - this… is just WRONG. Find another doctor who will check your problem, get the medical clearance, then do an appropriate exam, and then schedule surgery as needed...not backasswards like he did to me.

I went to Dr. Leibowitz for a correction of a drs very bad ptotis surgery.. I was very afraid after my last experience... As soon as I walked in Dr. Leibowitz told me exactly what needed to be done and after speaking with him I was confident he could do the job .. Thank you Dr Leibowitz for correcting my ptotis ..

Leibowitz review I was referred to Dr. Steven Leibowitz by my Endocrinologist to perform Oribital Decompression - he’s one of very few surgeons in NV trained to perform the procedure. I was first impressed by Dr. Leibowitz as he discussed the impact of autoimmune disease, not just on my eyes but with my quality of life, he GETS it and he showed so much compassion. Another reason I’m so impressed: I had my surgery the Friday before a big holiday weekend. A few days later I noticed some issues with my stitches and left a voicemail for him. He called me two hours later, at night on a holiday weekend, had me email him a photo of the issue, and responded within minutes. He performed the surgery at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute and I was very impressed with the facility and the quality of care there. I’m still healing but very happy with my results so far.

Dr.Leibowitz is an arrogant jerk who is a butcher to back it up!!His ptosis surgery lead me to 12 HOURS OF BLEEDING OUT IN AN E.R....& then he had the AUDACITY TO BLAME ME!! I WOULDN'T LET HIM CLEAN MY TOILET!!!

I loved his bedside Manner, and his knowledge was excellent!

I have gone to Dr. Leibowitz for over 25 years and have sent family and friends. He has always been excellent for all of us including serious eye injuries, routine cataract surgery and weird headache issues. He is so very bright. I am sorry to hear some do not agree but I would trust him with any eye issue.

Do yourself and your eyes a favor and run far away from Dr. Leibowitz. I had orbit eye surgery performed to look for possible foreign object that was detected on a Cat Scan. Day of surgery Dr. Leibowitz informed myself and my husband that he would let my husband know about the procedure after the surgery. (as most surgeons do) He did NOT go out to talk to my husband. As we were leaving my husband told the nurse that he hadn't spoken to the doctor. No good answer was giving as to why. Day after surgery I was experiencing terrible vertigo and double vision. I contacted Dr. Leibowitz to tell him about this problem. His office had him return my call, at which time he asked if the double vision was up and down, or side to side. When I said up and down...he respond, "That is why you sign waivers" NOT come in to the office, or this could be a possible complication, but "That is why you sign waivers" I still feel the shutter I felt the day he said that. This is a doctor talking to me,… are you kidding?? Bottom line- He cut/kicked the optic nerve. I now live with double vision for the rest of my life. I can't wear contacts because I need special lenses to see. I truly believe that he knew something was wrong right away..probably why he didn't go talk to my husband. What other excuse would he have for such a rude, uncaring comment about the waiver? And in hind sight several doctors have told me that they would not have even done the surgery without further testing. Find another doctor!
