Dr. Steven K Liljegren, PhD

My experience with Dr. Steve is from decades ago, but I think of him and his positive impact on my life often and was inspired to write a review after I was reminded of him again recently. Dr. Steve is a mental health professional who has a rare combination of abilities - high intellect, clinical skill, and compassion. It's clear that he does because it was his calling. My sessions with him were productive, meaningful, and I always had takeaways that still remain with me to this day. For me personally, I felt that our sessions had a scaffolding of support and impartiality, while professional boundaries were maintained and respected. I saw Dr. Steve during my time in college and drove 45 minutes each way because of how excellent he was. I was a suicidally depressed student with lifelong trauma who had poor stress management skills and beliefs about myself as a human being. Dr. Steve introduced me to the "ABCs" of CBT, which I never forgot - he explained that there's an… activating event, a belief and then the conclusions we draw based on those beliefs and spent years working on those "B's". Dr. Steve used fantastic analogies to explain what he meant. He also nailed down my pattern very quickly - he said I would run or escape when a 'red 'scope light' hit me. He also explained that my brain had a way of turning a positive word said about me, like putting holes in cheese. I'll never forget these analogies because, at the time, I was in such shambles that I needed things explained to me simply. As I evolved, so did his language. I'm convinced even now, 20 years later, that he's one of the reasons that I'm still alive and thriving.

This man has been with me for over seven years. He has been with me through all the high and very lows of my life. No matter what is going on I am always itching to see him. His compassion for his patients is his biggest selling point to me. He does everything in his power to show he cares, and wants the best for you. He is also is great at keeping a conversation moving and making sure we are as productive as possible during a session. He doesn't spend the whole time writing on a note pad but has a great ability to retain all the info and recall that info years later when it is brought up again so there isn't too much backtracking. The space he creates is safe and warm, you find yourself more open than you have been with anyone. It's like you want him to know every inch of your mind so he can help you as much as he can. I trust this man with my life and love everything about him. I have had a quite a few others i have seen throughout my years but not one of them has ever… come close to Steven.

Dr. Liljegren is an extremely intelligent, caring, and empathic therapist. He is extremely helpful and always professional. Can’t imagine a better psychologist for you or your loved one.

Almost a decade and a half as a patient of Dr. Steve should speak volumes on the care and empathy I have received from him. In all the extreme lows as well as the positive times, I've never had the slighest doubt that he was in my corner. Dr. Steve has taught me life changing tools that I use on a daily basis to battle my illnesses and make it a fair fight against my demons. He is my number one supporter, cheering my accomplishments, reminding me of my goodness when times are dark, and keeping me glued together when I have been broken. He is not afraid to say he is not perfect or doesn't know but then he reaches out others who do and teams with them to get answers. I walk into every appointment knowing that it's a safe place with zero judgements. He has always challenged me to think differently, to learn, to better myself. Dr. Steve's compassion saved my life (literally) multiple times and endlessly reminds me that I am worth it. Anyone would be blessed to have him as their doctor.

I was a patient of Dr Steve for over twenty years, and he was a wonderful therapist as well as a consummate professional. He got me through some very rough times, and was always kind and caring. Steve is the very best therapist, always willing to listen and impart wisdom when I needed it. I would happily refer anyone to him and know that he would never disappoint!

When I met Dr. SL, I was a confused, traumatized, angry adolescent fearful to express my emotions. Today in my mid-twenties, after working with Dr. SL for ten years, I am an emotionally healthy, confident, introspective and balanced woman. Dr. SL has had such a profoundly positive affect on my life, that I am pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and am nearly finished. Dr. SL artfully infuses warmth and kindness into his practice while also being staunchly boundaried and providing an environment of safety and honesty. His professional ethics and principals are unmatched by any other psychological professional I have worked with personally and professionally. It is not an understatement when I state, I trust him with the most pertinent of life circumstances. I cannot recommend him more highly and hope prospective clients have the privilege of working with him as I have.

I met Dr. Steve when I was a teenager, during a very difficult time in my life. My mother insisted I see a psychologist and so I went, rolling my eyes the entire time. He was able to cut through the adolescent drama and help me get back on the right track. I was his patient on and off for many years, continuing periodically in my 20s and early 30s when life got too much for me to handle on my own. I am confident that without his compassionate honesty and remarkable insight, I would not have survived those teenage years. If you are a kid who feels like no one gets you, are struggling with addiction, or are the parent of a child who is, you will not find a more caring, helpful, or genuine professional than Dr. Steve.

Dr. Steve is incredible. When it comes to his opinion, he won't sugarcoat things and his honesty is very much so appreciated. He also tells a lot of stories of his life and is genuinely interested in the lives of his patients , which definitely makes the environment feel more like a friendly one than anything else. He is amazing at his job and really does wonders.
