My experience under Dr McKinley's care could not have been better. I experienced none of the irritation I expected from stitches in my eye, the explanation of what the surgery entailed and what to expect after surgery was clear and the follow up outstanding. I highly recommend Dr. McKinley for anyone seeking care for eye issues.

I totally agree with the comments of the reviewer dated Jan. 30. Dr. McKinley is very thorough, listens and answers questions, not rushed, and is very knowledgeable. Glaucoma runs in my family and I have been a patient of his for many years. He did my cataract surgery and on another visit he was quick to get me an emergency visit with a retina specialist. I trust his judgment.

I was recently diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma. After a series of disappointing visits to several ophthalmologists in Austin (e.g., one doctor prescribed an eye drop that a 2018 meta-analysis showed to be significantly less effective than others; another doctor used scare tactics to persuade me to undergo a surgical procedure that is recommended primarily as a last resort for patients with advanced disease – I have very mild, early-stage disease), I reached out to the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Dell Medical School who recommended Steve McKinley at the Eye Institute of Austin. In hindsight, I wish I’d reached out sooner. For me, Doctor McKinley checks all the boxes. First, he is the polar opposite of those physicians who give off the impression that the patient is encroaching on their busy schedules. Doctor McKinley has never made me feel like I’m wasting his time. Just the opposite. He always seems 100% sincere in his desire to answer thoughtfully each and every… last question I ask, without ever giving me the feeling that he’d rather be doing something else. Second, he follows best practices. His clinical decision making is informed by up-to-date and sound medical science (I freely admit that as a geeky academic, I perform a thorough search of the medical literature to confirm (or disconfirm) a doctor’s treatment plan). For these reasons and many others, I recommend, with no caveats or qualifiers, Doctor McKinley, for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the eye.

They got me in right away! Front desk, techs, and Physician were all great I have no complaints!!!!
