Dr. Steven Bernard Newman, MD

Absolutely love him. Asked me questions and listened to everything I told him. I have a rare type of anemia that was hard to diagnose. He correctly diagnosed me, treated me and am now in remission of all symptoms.

I waited 65 minutes for an appointment no one ever came over and said the doctor was behind. Staff was very unfriendly. Walked out would never make an appointment with doctor again. Obviously he doesn’t care about how long he keeps his patients waiting.

Horrible doctor. Lacks empathy and compassion. Could not look my brother in the eye while giving him a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. Kept us waiting for an hour and a half. And went into another appointment during my brother's appointment. A complete coward of a doctor in addition to being a pathetic human being.

Don't waste you time.

Oops; Missed my 4 inch (100 mm) inoperable brain tumor after 16 months and not even taking one image, CT, PET. MRI or even simple X-Ray, yet you say you're "proud of you note taking". Well then if you do have note taking pride, you better learn how to read them and find my brain tumor earlier than almost 1 & 1/2 years. BTW, there are a lot of holes in your excuses you dish out, now my quality of life has not only been shortened but is miserable.

After waiting several weeks for an appointed to determine if I had cancer and then waiting in his office for 2+ hours Dr. Newman never got back to me with results of blood tests performed. Multiple calls and all I got was a "you do not have cancer, but one test is abnormal" from his P.A. I urge anyone looking for a Hematologist to not waste your time with this uncaring Physician.

He seems intelligent and caring while also controlling. The office wanted us there 45 minutes early to do paperwork but then the MD was 2 1/2 hrs late in seeing us. We were never told that this is usual and we were expected to call before arriving. Feels disrespectful and office was full of exhausted patients in a less than comfortable waiting area.

If you choose him to be your oncologist, be prepared for the following: - Wait time of at least 2 hours - Poor bedside manners, including answering his cell phone during your visit and having conversations with that person - He will learn about you as he reads your chart during your visit. In other words, he does not prepare or know anything about you before walking into your visit - More discussion about politics or other non-medical conversations than your cancer - You will have no knowledge of what blood tests he is having you get done, or what the results even are In short, choose another oncologist.

I wouldn't let ego or wait time get in the way. If your question isn't answered, say so and he'll slow down. If I didn't get it, he'll pull out a paper and write a diagram to help me understand my tumor, etc. as well as what is going on in the body. He'll stay late or see me at the last minute if I call and ask. The wait time is this: Dr. Newman wants to get absolutely everything handled in my appointment session. When it's your turn, you'll get the same dedication. If you need a referral to other specialists, he'll pick up the phone and call as many as you need while you're in the office, get the doc on the line, ask for a priority, if need be. If you ask, he'll dictate a letter to your insurance company while you're sitting there. The politics of any office often make it seem that it’s uncaring; but rest assured, Dr. Newman truly cares for his patients. Your success is his success. I’d rather have “brilliant” than warm and fuzzy any day when it comes to the best health care.

He's a fine fellow, fine doctor, a nice man.
