The entire experience was extremely unprofessional. It took an act of Congress after my Doctor referred me to this department, for me to get an appointment. Then a couple of months ago I had an appointment with Dr Porter’s NP. She agreed with my GP that I required surgery. Then I received an appointment to meet the surgeon and a week later I’m at the hospital. I was told to check in at 10AM, which I did. I checked myself out a few minutes ago. It’s been 19 hours since my last medication and my neuropathy is on fire. As I sit on a bench in front of the hospital, it’s been 7 hours since they required me to be here, but no surgery or even an idea from my nurse as to when they might operate on me. I haven’t had anything to eat or drink in 17 hours and I wasn’t allowed my regular medications during that time. You can try your luck with him but it was hard to understand him when he talked and he seemed to be repeating a speech that he had memorized and recited hundreds of times. … There was nothing personal about the way he talked with me and he didn’t explain the procedure or what to expect the day of surgery “well at all”. Maybe my experience was an isolated failure or maybe this happens to more of his patients than people realize. I’m going to have another surgeon perform my surgery. I’ve never experienced such a catastrophic breakdown of communication and compassionate care.

Fantastic surgeon and friendly staff

Dr. Porter is a great doctor. His medical assistant is such a sweetheart. I've never had a problem with her. Now the male receptionist is a different story. He is very rude, inpatient, and seems like he doesn't like his job. I was referred by a close friend and I was warned he was rude, but to simply cut patients off on the phone, is another thing. When I called to make my appointment it seemed like he was bothered and wouldn't let me explain the reason I needed to be seen. He kept cutting me off. The women at the office are all so professional and understanding. He seems like it's just a job and doesn't care for the patients. It's such a shame such a great doctor has someone like that working for him. There's always one bad apple in the bunch. They need to get rid of him and they would be fine! Be aware he's really rude and makes you not feel welcomed!!

My mother had knee replacement surgery and so far the surgery itself has been worth the pain. The Dr's office on the other hand has not been a good experience. My parents are on a fixed income and Dr. Porter first allowed my mother for six weeks of disability knowing a full recovery would be at least six months. Now my mother has had to file an extension and had to pay a fee for the office to sign the disability form and not only that they take their time in completing the form which means my mother's disability income gets delayed. Not HAPPY AT ALL WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! The office is also very unorganized.

Dr. Porter is a great doctor. He listens to the needs of his patients and is very patient. The only problem I have and probably many patients have is the fact we hear the same thing over and over about how the office manager will call you back. When it came to my injections, and surgery i had to call the office plenty of times to have the receptionist tell me the office manager will call me back. When I did hear back from the office about my surgery it was the day before i had to go in and sign papers! The office manager also needs to get some training in customer service. She is very rude and has no patiance. Get a new office manager or send them to training and that office would run smooth. Yes i will still recommend Dr. Porter to friends and family because thankfully he is a great doctor with a great staff with that one expection.

This doctor had his staff call me to inform me that, during my physical therapy I'd opted for, he was not "comfortable" renewing my pain medication prescription. The staff person told me that if I opted for surgery, there would be no problem with its issuance, but otherwise, I should seek to have my primary care provider issue me this prescription. This is such an ethical breach. Basically, they're saying, "We'll allow you to be in pain if you choose the option that pays us less. Otherwise, feel free to schedule for surgery and we'll take care of your pain management." In the end, what's sad, is that he is the specialist and it is his diagnosis and his original pain prescription. To pawn me off onto my primary care provider who is not fully-trained in orthopedics is medical malpractice. Shame on this office!

I felt like he is a good doctor, but for my last appointment with him I waited for over 2 hours and that was stupid so I walked out and never was seen again or contacted by the office.I never got my problem taken care of and I guess it is ok now.

My son broke his right ankle and was seen by three different orthopedic surgeons, all of who told me to have him shipped to USC Medical Center or UCLA. Dr Porter reviewed the Xrays and assured me that he could preform the procedure and the outcome would be excellent. My Son is running jumping and has full range of motion. It has been 1 1/2 years since the accident and my Son and I are very happy with the results. We would recommend him 100% of the time. The Hospital, Sierra View District is fantastic. They too would be recommended.
