Dr. Steven Oneill Riggall, MD

Dr Riggall has helped me throughout my lifetime, probably wouldn't have made it without him.

I was an inpatient to Dr. Riggall back in 2015, as well as 2016, in Sharon Regional's adolescent hospitalization program. It has been many years since I have seen him. I do, however, definitely remember him. He was the doctor you could hear singing ridiculous songs down the hallway and cracking jokes at random. I quite enjoyed his company, seeing as he put up with me. He helped me to see that I wasn't what I had attempted to show people. I had tried to be tough and aggressive, he didn't believe a word I said. He knew I was just hiding from myself. He was the first doctor who had actually talked to me. He asked me questions that weren't in the book and genuinely tried to get to know me. I was 14 years old at the time, and I was as stubborn as a mule. I scoffed at the things he said to me. He explained to me that hating everybody and everything was going to get me no where. He was very blunt when he told me where I would go if I continued in my ways. I remember writing poems and he would… read them and ask to keep them. Apparently I had a very distinctive writing style that appealed to him. I wrote about anger, depression, hate. He didn't care. He loved them all. Long story short, he made me see that I could choose my own path. Nobody could make me feel anything, I chose to feel that way. I remember his parting words with me. "I want to see you someday on the news, not for a crime, but for something you succeeded in becoming." So, this is a doctor I would recommend. He made a difference in my life.

Having previously seen Dr Riggall approximately 20 years ago with my son, I had the utmost respect for him. When he agreed to accept my daughter as a patient after an inpatient hospitalization, I was thrilled, as I trusted him & believed him to be an excellent physician. I couldn't have been more wrong about someone not only as a human being, but as someone practicing medicine. We continued to see him on an outpatient basis. My daughter had 3 more hospitalizations & on the last, which was a suicide attempt, Dr Riggall decided to drop her as a patient from his practice. But did so without telling my daughter or myself. Leaving us to fund new services.

The best doctor I have ever had. Really, he was so comforting and humorous when I was in such a terrible state of mind. I was only a patient for an inpatient stay for 5-6 days, but I was in other therapy as an intensive outpatient and it was nowhere near as good and I would rate the doctor I see regularly below him.
