Steven Schneider, MD, a member of St. Joseph Medical Group Inc., provides consulting and inpatient services to area hospitals. Dr. Schneider, who specializes in adult and geriatric psychiatry, is a graduate of the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y. (1980), the University of Illinois School of Medicine (1988) and the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he completed his residency in psychiatry in 1992.

Dr. Schneider, who is the medical director of Lutheran Generations 1 and ECT Services, is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Indiana State Medical Association.

My mom was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for medication adjustment because she was becoming aggressive and violent. Mom had COPD and dementia. Dr. Schneider was my mom's physician at a facility in Indianapolis. I called every day and asked that he call me back. I never spoke to him until 3 days before my mom was discharged. By this time he/they had her so drugged she was catatonic, not eating, not moving and pretty much giving up on life. She was released on the 4th and died on the 9th. She never spoke or moved on her own again. I spoke to Dr. Schneider on the 5th. Asked if he thought she could have had another stoke. He asked why I thought she would have had a stroke in the first place. I said she had an MRI because she was talking jibberish the week before she got into his care. His response was that he didn't have time to look at her medical history. Really?!?! Isn't that his job as a physician to know the history of his patients?

Dr. Schneider has been the lead psychiatrist in caring for my husband with advanced stage Alzheimer’s for the last three years. His evaluation was thorough and his ongoing oversight of his medications as the disease progresses has made my husband’s care manageable and sustainable. His concern and care for me as his caregiver has been helpful as well.
