Dr. Steven I Sherman, DO

After leaving work early to get to my appointment, I got stuck on the train and was running five minutes late. I called as I rushed from the train to the office, as a courtesy, and the doctor refused to see me. He reasoned that since I was a new patient, I would have to fill out paperwork, and he wanted to reschedule so he could leave. He knew that I was downstairs and he adamantly refused to see me. If paperwork is an issue, why allow new patients to be seen at the end of the day? The receptionist knew I was a new patient when I made the appointment. And what kind of joker thinks his time is more valuable than anyone else's? What is five minutes when I rescheduled my whole evening around this appointment? Extremely unprofessional and downright irrational. Don't give your money to this fool.

He was the worst Doctor I ever saw. He is rude, mean and has no bedside manners. His staff is horrific and his office hours are horrible. I wish my insurance never had his name on the list. I will never go to him again! I will never recommend him to anyone else.

I got a referral from my primary care physician and made an appointment with Dr. Sherman because of his location. They have no access to the internet to receive referrals so I had to get a hard copy from my dr. Not a big deal annoying. I was having headaches and not feeling well and the receptionist was very nice and got me in right away. When I got there the receptionist asked me for my insurance card. It was expired. I never received a new one in the mail and didn't realize it. She let me in to see the dr anyway as I had a referral. He asked me why I was there and I told him I wasn't feeling well. Then he asked to see my insurance card. I had never been to a dr before who asked that. I showed it to him and told him it was exprired. He started screaming at the receptionist. He said she never should have let me in to see him. He was rude, obnoxious and out of line. All he cares about is money, not patients. Don't subject yourself to his cruelty!

Dr. Sherman exhibits a lack of professionalism and competence. He is brusque with his patients and curt with his receptionist. My wife and I, both in our seventies, were referred to Dr. Sherman by our Primary Care Provider as a matter of course. Before seeing us, he had his receptionist determine whether or not both our Medicare and secondary insurance deductibles had been met. Since it was January, they had not. We had to write a check for both the Medicare deductible amounts as well as 20% of the Medicare allowed amounts not paid by Medicare for the procedures he was to perform! As it turned out, when the Medicare statements came in the mail, we discovered that, in my case, the Medicare deductible amount was applied to a provider whom I saw a week after seeing Dr. Sherman and who subsequently billed me for it! In my wifes case, Medicare paid more than anticipated and, thus, the patients responsibility was less than what was paid. When the Medicare statements were brought to his… receptionists attention that showed that we had overpaid in both instances, it took over two months for the doctor to reimburse us, and that was after repeated visits and phone calls. It seems its Dr. Sherman's policy that his receptionist cannot correct any errors without his specific review and approval. As for the quality of care exhibited, when we finally did see him, he proceeded to write eyeglass prescriptions (for both reading and distance) for both of us after a cursory examination. It consisted of only one viewing of a single line of a projected eye chart for each prescription. When I pointed out that in neither case did I ever see the letters clearly and that all previous eye tests I ever had consisted of several viewing iterations while changing lenses until the line was clear and sharp, he reacted as if I were questioning his competency. My wifes experience was the same. When we took the prescriptions to an optometrist and had the glasses made Surprise, Surprise neither of us could read with the reading glasses nor see clearly with the distance glasses. We had to have a proper examination by the optometrist and the glasses reground!
