Dr. Steven Richard Squillace, MD

Steven Squillace, O.D., is the founding optometrist of Somers Vision Clinic and a seasoned primary eye care provider with extensive training in pediatric and vision therapy care. A graduate of Linton High School (Schenectady, NY), he earned a B.S. in Multiple Sciences from Le Moyne College and completed his optometry degree at the New England College of Optometry in Boston. During training, he completed clinical rotations at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston pediatric clinics, and the North End Community Health Center, followed by a Vision Therapy internship at SUNY College of Optometry and a fellowship with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD).

Since opening Somers Vision Clinic in 2002, Dr. Squillace has built a full-service practice offering comprehensive eye exams, vision therapy, pediatric optometry, contact lens services, ocular disease detection and co-management, and hospital-based emergency consultations. He maintains hospital affiliation for ocular …emergencies and provides personalized, concierge-level care with a focus on evidence-based and patient-centered treatment.

• Refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) and presbyopia
• Contact lens fitting and management
• Dry eye disease and blepharitis
• Pediatric vision disorders, amblyopia, and strabismus
• Binocular vision dysfunction and vision therapy
• Diabetic retinopathy screening and diabetic eye disease monitoring
• Glaucoma screening and co-management
• Age-related macular degeneration (screening and monitoring)
• Cataract evaluation and surgical co-management
• Ocular infections, foreign body removal, and emergency eye care

Dr. Squillace is active in professional and community service: he is a long-standing member of the American Optometric Association, the Connecticut Association of Optometrists, and the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, and holds associate membership with COVD. He has led local civic initiatives (including the Redstone Trailway project), served as Somers Rotary Club president and scholarship committee member, and remains engaged in community organizations. In 2023, he underwent treatment for acute leukemia, received a stem cell transplant, and is now in remission—grateful to continue delivering trusted vision care to patients
