Dr. Stewart Allan Daniels, MD

He lied to me for years about what was wrong with my eye. When I hit Medicare age he didn’t want me as a patient at all!

I brought my father in law in for his appointment and had to wait over 3 hours to see the doctor, which was very unexectable.

I noticed some floaters on my right eye and saw Dr. Daniels instead of my regular Ophthalmologist since he was not available. I was very satisfied with the visit. Dr. Daniels did a thorough eye exam, explained what needed to be done, performed laser surgery and provided me with much details on what he did and what to do next. I also found staff very friendly. My wait time was relatively short considering I was admitted in emergency situation and did not have prior appointment. I recommend Doctor Daniels for his detail attention and complete eye exam.

I had a detached retina (due to astigmatism) three times in 2010. Dr Daniels performed 2 of 3 surgeries to reattach. Considering how extensive the damage was to my retina, I have him to thank for restoring what little vision I do have. He was compassionate, reassuring, realistic, considerate, confident and professional. After seeing 3 other opthomologists prior to him - all of which were also professional - I appreciated his candor and straight-forwardness. He works deliberately and methodically, something I appreciate but may come off to others as odd or aloof.The office staff was professional and accomodating. The office (Castro Valley), however, is constantly packed with patients and it does take a while to get in to actually see him. To me, that says he and the other drs in the office are in demand and actually take time to listen/explain.

In a matter of 3 mos, I have had to undergo 3 rounds of surgery for a detached retina. The first surgery was an emergency situation performed by another (highly qualified/competent) Dr in the bay area. Unfortunately, he was not in my insurance network. I was sent to Dr Daniels who performed the 2nd and 3rd surgeries. Understanding that my condition is complicated, my experience with Dr Daniels has been excellent. When the initial surgeon gave me the impression my prognosis after the first surgery failed was not good, Dr Daniels displayed much more positivity and optimism and gave me hope. He took - and continues to take - time out to clearly and systematically explain to me and my husband what to expect with retinal detachments and the subsequent remedies. I often overhear his exchanges with other patients (most of which are elderly, thus a little slower and a little more hard of hearing), as well as his staff. My impression is that he is concise, professional, and deliberate… in his manner. This may initially come across as 'cold' or not compassionate to some, but in my opinion, helps eliminate miscommunication and confusion. My and my husband's experience with his office staff has been positive. While the (Castro Valley) office lacks a welcoming ambiance, the staff has been caring, helpful, and communicative - even when the waiting room is jam-packed. The one consistant downside has been the wait time. However, given the time taken with patients and the sheer amount of patients, that is to be expected.Bottom line: I credit Dr Daniels with saving what little vision I have after multiple and complex retinal detachments and can't recommend him enough.

spent forever at his office.he was brusque and didnt care about my retina problem.got another opinion and he didnt give me the full picture.avoid this doctor at all costs!
