Dr. Stewart H Mostofsky, MD

Dr. Mostofsky is very knowledgeable and helpful. Our son participated in a voluntary study at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, which included a brain MRI. Dr. Mostofsky contacted us to report some incidental findings from that MRI. He explained everything in a way we could understand and recommended next steps to ensure the appropriate follow-up care. He even took the time to answer additional questions for us and the neurosurgeon with whom we consulted. We highly recommend Dr. Mostofsky and the team at the Center for Neurodevelopmental and Imaging Research.

I first met Dr. Mostofsky as a child. Looking back, he was incredibly professional with my family and did his best analyzing who I was as a child. Strongly recommend his services!

Dr. Mostofsky was the neurologist for both of my sons who are on the spectrum. I would describe him as on the “cutting edge” of autism research. He is conscientious, detail oriented, and obviously very bright. He has devoted his professional life to understanding and treating this disorder.

Dr. Mostofsky treated my daughter Robbie four times a year for about 20 years. As her father, I took her to see him on every visit and sat nearby while he conducted his examination. Robbie is severely autistic and as a child experienced frequent instances of extreme misbehaviors. Often, Dr. Mostofsky had to calm her down in order to initiate and complete the sessions. It was not unusual for the visits to exceed the time allotted, but Dr. Mostofsky never cut a visit short. On two occasions over the years, Robbie experienced times when her behavior required hospitalization at a special facility connected to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Because of the additional expenses, Robbie's insurance provider required a daily report on her condition. Each day, Dr. Mostofsky spent hours on the telephone reporting on Robbie's condition and arguing for continued services until he was satisfied that she could be discharged. His work and time consumption during this period was far above and beyond… that which would be expected by anyone. Today, Robbie, at age 28, is comfortably and happily ensconced in a group home short distance from our home, and we see each other frequently and happily. Thank goodness for Dr. Mostofsky!

Dr. Mostofsky treated my son for several years. He was kind, patient and capable. I felt that my son was in the best hands in Dr. Mostofsky's care.

Dr. Mostofsky was our daughter’s neurologist for more than 20 years. I don’t know what we would have done without his medical knowledge and guidance, kindness, emotional support, and ongoing availability to assist with our autistic daughter’s needs. He was a godsend to our family and we have yet to find a comparable doctor now that our girl is an adult.

Dr Mostofsky gave me the most thorough and accessible explanation of my child’s condition of anyone I spoke with. He is clearly passionate about his work, but also able to explain things to parents and non-scientists in a way that makes sense and puts the mind at ease. It feel incredibly lucky to have worked with him.

After waiting more than a year for appointment, he had reviewed none of the extensive information we'd been asked to submit when we arrived. In the 30 minutes of actually seeing him, he left the room once to make a phone call, read email or something on his phone while in the summary conference with the whole team, and made disparaging comments about another supporting profession. Very disappointing. The only saving grace was that the rest of his team was quite good, prepared and thorough.
