The Best Dr with the biggest heart!!!

Dr. Orsher took blood from me every two weeks, never accepting insurance, suggesting several dire possibilities ad ignoring the most probably. I felt terrified and kept submitting to his requests for more blood, breath, urine tests, all done in his office and quite expensive. After 6 months, with no end in sight and no diagnosis I decided I'd had enough. I called a week in advance of my appointment and told the nurse I would not be giving blood and expected at the minimum a milestone visit in which Orsher discussed diagnosis. When the visit came I was kept waiting for nearly an hour and Orsher took vitals, saying "you look much better, let's send you back for some blood." And went dashing off to his next patient. I was stunned and begrudgingly went back to the testing room. Once there I confessed to the nurse that is early made a decision not to give blood, but what could I do? The nurse leaned towards me and quietly suggested I "just leave", that Orsher would "just keep giving… tests..." I was truly stunned. I went to leave and at the front desk they asked if is had a chance to talk with Orsher yet. I said I hadn't, and the sent me off to his room to wait again. When Orsher arrived I asked for a diagnosis. Orsher's response: sometimes it takes up to 5 years for the disease to develop... He didn't know and was planning on testing repeatedly until something developed. Meanwhile I had gone broke. He had also sent me to a crew of specialist Doctors, most of which also didn't take insurance, and some of which filled my mind with more ambiguous fears. The whole year of medical experience with Orsher was ultimately traumatic and I came away only with ambiguous fears and certainly no healing.

Orsher ran through my savings and terrified me, for nothing.

Dr. Orsher has the demeanor of a kindly healer. He uses his hands and really looks at you, addresses you personally. For these reasons you have the feeling you are being well taken care of. He has a staff that takes a number of tests - blood, breath, urine, etcâ?¦ All of this seems good, but my experience ended up being far from satisfactory. First of all, you truly have to be wealthy to see Dr. Orsher as he does not accept any insurance. He takes a TON of blood. For me it was every two weeks, many vials of blood, breath tests and urine almost every time. He also sent me out to so many specialists, many of whom also would not take insurance. He told me very scary posibilities (of course assuring me that it was all manageable), but would not give me a prognosis. After I'd seen him for 6 months (and repeatedly endured an insane number of heavy and often expensive tests) Dr. Orsher made it clear that he still had no prognosis and that it sometimes takes up to 5 yearsâ?¦ I… have lost all faith in this man as a Doctor, and in fact, 4 months after my last appointment I decided I wanted to go off some prescribed medication. I wrote to Dr. Orsher asking how to safely go off them. No response.

Dr. Orsher has treated my wife and myself since he started his practice decades ago the visits were always routine and without a need for a diagnosis. Now, in our mid-eighties and Medicare "victims" his office visits are like a social activity, only with a beneficial end. Our bodies are no longer pain-free or tireless, quite the opposite, but in far better shape than most of our peers who lack a personal physician with such technical and social skills. Dr. Orsher, in my mind, is micro-managing the two of us and in his, is just making sure that our quality of life is as good as it can be regardless of his effort. His diagnostic skills appear to border on the magical and his rolodex is ready when he feels a need for confirmation. Sometimes the visits are quick and perfunctory. That is when we are obviously doing well and his office and examining rooms are full of people who need him more. In the event that he detects something noteworthy, he drops everything and will… take as long as it takes to make a decision or send us to another totally competent specialist. The outcome is that we are looking forward to our 63rd wedding anniversary shortly, but making plans for our 75th dinner party with full expectancy of us both being there and eating with metal tableware.

I wrote a comment in 2009, but somehow it vanished. That this doctor is rated as one of NY's Top Doctors tells me that the listing has nothing to do with whether you are a good doctor or not, but with whom you know. His wife, who I believe is on the Board of Lenox Hill Hospital makes sure that he is on the list.I am a 62 ( now 65)year old woman who was experiencing lightheadedness and a feeling of strangulation. I am in excellent physical health, otherwise, and work out every day. Dr. Orsher sent me for all these ridiculous tests and charged a fortune. He would not do blood work unless he first checked me with a stethoscope, so that he could charge the full fee for the appointment plus the charge for the blood work. At the end, I was out thousands of dollars with a diagnosis of lyme disease, which made no sense at all and was disputed by several infectious disease doctors.To save face, he still insisted it was possible. He has his posse of doctors he sends you to that make you feel… like you are being well taken care of (check out the terrible comments on Dr. David Younger, the neurologist he sends patients to see), but mostly I was just being led in circles. He also gives you his cell phone number to make it appear that he accessible, but he never returns the calls. After spending $10,000 out of pocket I cured myself. I happened to take an ativan one night, and bingo- I was cured. I have now switched to klonapin, take it only at night, and for $10 a prescription, I'm done.

Not sure he got my diagnosis right (Lyme) but no one else could find another reason for my symptoms. All I know is that I feel significantly better at this writing. I ran out of options. If you like having tests done to rule things out for peace of mind when you're freaked out, he may be helpful. But be prepared when proceeding that test results done this way are often ambiguous and he will send you for more tests and then more tests. This can also raise your anxiety level as it shakes out. In the end, all often turns out ok, but at least you feel you've covered your bases as best as possible. You better have good insurance. I'm glad I have him as a resource but wouldn't use him as my GP.
