Dr. Sukh Dev Sharma, MD

Sukh D. Sharma, MD, FACC, FACP, has been a leader in cardiology at Hamot for nearly 30 years, serving as Chief of the Division of Cardiology from 1979 to 1993, and co-director of Hamots Medical Coronary Intensive Care from 1974 to 1996.


Dr. Sharmas special interests include clinical research. He has served as principal investigator and coordinator Hamot for a number of international studies for acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina including ISIS III, ASSENT, GUSTO I, III and IV. Dr. Sharma has also published a number of papers and presented them at the national American Heart Association convention.


Continuing medical education remains a priority for Dr. Sharma. He has served as course director for Cardiology Update, a continuing medical education event held annually at Hamot since 1987. He is a member of the teaching faculty at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie.


Dr. Sharma has …been involved in several charitable organizations in both the United States and India. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Hamots Second Century Foundation.


In 2004, Dr. Sharma donated funds to build an auditorium in memory of his parents in his native village high school located in India.


Dr. Sharma is an active member of the medical community serving as President of the American Heart Association of NW PA Chapter, and as Founder and President of the Great Lakes Association of Physicians for India and the Indian Association of Greater Erie. He served as president of the Association of Cardiologists of Indian origin and chairman of the charitable foundation of the American Association of Physicians from India; this organization was instrumental in building four hospitals in earthquake effected regions of India.
