Dr. Sumeet S. Mitter, MD

Dr. Mitter was well acquainted with my medical history. He briefed me on his observations and recommendations in terms easy for me to understand. I have confidence in his ability to guide me through my process.

Not a good doctor in my experience: My thoughts about Dr. Mitter based upon a recent visit to his office at Mount Sinai hospital: It was most disappointing visit to any doctor we ever went to for my family. He does lot of testing for even minor issues. Does extensive, sometimes risky investigations, to rule out conditions for which there are no current symptoms. Not sure if it is done to generate more revenues for him or the hospital. Told us he will review test results before the appointment but during the visit, he said he did not have the results and could not discuss much. He does not like patients asking any questions. He does not listen to patients and does not want to discuss anything with patients; he just wants patients to listen to him and follow his directions blindly. Gets very annoyed when patient asks questions about their medical condition or the rest results. Gets very angry when asked to for a copy of available test results to review with him. Prescribed… very expensive drugs when our PCP said there were several other, much cheaper, alternatives available. I wonder if doctors have a financial incentive to prescribe expensive drugs. It seems he was trained at some elite medical programs, and he has a chip on his shoulder; he should really stay in the research lab rather than directly interacting with patients. He has lot of background knowledge in his specialty but very poor way of dealings with patients. His examination skills are not at par with where he was trained; not sure if the problem was with the trainee or the trainer. We will be seeking help from some other doctor in the city now.
