Dr. Patel is every patient's nightmare. If he talks you into going under his knife for any kind of neurosurgery, RUN! I came to him with normal mobility in my cervical spine, with only left sided facial pain. After 2 rushed surgeries I have been left in excruciating pain, can't sleep, can't move my neck. This doctor is DANGEROUS!! Find someone else before it is too late!

Dr. Patel's surgical skills were a nightmare. He operated 2 times within a 3 month period and left me crippled with pain, no motion in my neck, losing motion in arm, practically deaf in one ear. He is arrogant, and more of a salesman than a surgeon. If you can function when you come in to see him you will not be when he is done. My initial facial pain was nothing compared to what I endure now. Do yourself a big favor FIND ANOTHER SURGEON!

I suffered for years from symptoms my family physician couldn’t explain. I was misdiagnosed by doctors and when I finally went to a neurologist, an MRI showed a large pineal cyst. Neurosurgeons would not address it because they didn’t believe it was the cause of my symptoms. After researching online I found Dr Patel. This man saved my life and gave me back quality of living. He performed the surgery three months ago and I will be back at work next week. Trust him. He is the very best. I live in NY and traveled back and forth because he is that amazing.

Where do I even begin? Dr. Patel MISDIAGNOSED me with Hydrocephalus in 2011. He then made the choice to place a shunt in my brain draining fluid into my abdomen which turned out to be completely unnecessary as the fluid amount around my brain as well as my spinal taps were normal. I was told I needed the shunt to maintain quality of life and prevent brain damage. He performed 3 separate surgeries on me that were never necessary as I DO NOT have Hydrocephalus and never did. Due to Dr. Patel’s oversight, negligence, and incredibly disrespectful & ARROGANT medical interns, the last decade of my life has been a medical nightmare. When I began having seizures, I was told that they were psycho-somatic (making them up) and they would send up psych to my room, when I was having vision problems in my right eye I was told by one of Patel’s interns “that’s not a sign of anything being wrong”, when I expressed that I was having unbearable headaches that made me lay in the Fetal position and… made working full time EXTREMELY hard, I was told: “Well, you’re gonna have headaches regardless of the shunt”, when I tried to be heard about the immense ringing in my ears I was told “nothing to do with the shunt”. Fast forward to 10 years later and finding a neurosurgeon to make sure I was okay during my first pregnancy, he tells me he doesn’t see Hydrocephalus on my scans. The shunt was taken out and all symptoms have stopped. I can’t even begin to tell you how it has been trying to process all of this. It is truly a grieving process to find out all of the pain and suffering, mistreatment by unprofessional medical interns, piles of medical debt that I am STILL paying on, having been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus and having a shunt which made me have a high-risk pregnancy - there are a myriad of elements from this entire misdiagnosis that changed my life. Like not being able to maintain a stable job because of the chronic symptoms, feeling like I never lived my 20’s the way I could have, exposing my sweet baby to complications for absolutely NO reason, putting my family through the torture of watching me suffer...there are an endless amount of ways the decisions made by Dr. Patel and his team scarred me forever in more ways than one. It absolutely breaks my heart. I thought of Dr. Patel as someone who was truly on my team, looking out for me, protecting me, trying to solve what was happening to me, and that was not the case at all. Dr. Patel and his staff completely ignored their obligation to the oath they took to DO NO HARM. There has been more harm done than I can write about on a review. Please get a second opinion before you see Dr. Patel or anyone on his team. He is the Chief of Neurosurgery at MUSC, so I would get a second opinion from ANY doctor under his guidance.

Nothing less than the best

After moving to FL, Dr. Patel makes me want to drive back to SC each time I need to be seen. He's done two of my three spinal surgeries and I trust him the most out of all the providers I've seen.

Good dr . However forget about things you tell him about s/ax and doesn't document so it's like starting over each visit

My husband and i just went for our first visit with Dr. Patel. Let me tell you, we have been to a number of neurosurgeons and Dr. Patel is by far the best neurosurgeon around. He gave us hope and is going to do the surgery on my husbands spine and though the thought of surgery terrifies me, he is possibly going to give my husband his life back. My husband has been in the worst pain i have ever seen and i have total peace that Dr. Patel is going to fix that for him. Dr Patel is not only good at what he does, but he has this care and concern in his eyes that made both my husband and i relax a little bit more. Thank you so much to Dr. Patel and his wonderful kind hearted staff. I truly believe that with God and Dr. Patel on our side my husband will have a full recovery. Thank you so very much!!!
