Dr. Suraj P Verma, MD

I was a Reno Family Physician's patient since 2003. I had a "complete physical/new patient" appointment to establish with Dr. Verma after my prior PCM, Dr. John Horgan retired. Labs were ordered and I got immunizations I requested. Dr. Verma only listened to my lungs in a couple places and my heart in 1 spot with me sitting, over my clothing. I have known lung disease and valvular heart disease. A refill of my rescue inhaler did not occur. Next visit was for a tumor on my thyroid. He palpated my larynx, not my thyroid or any my neck/supraclavicular nodes. He ordered a thyroid ultrasound and I ended up referred to a surgeon. Most recently, my autoimmune disease flared which hadn't happened in years. I asked for a Rheumatologist referral, but 2 months later and nothing. Within 30 days I deranged a knee. I had to make another office visit to get a referral to ROC Urgent care/ROC ortho surgeon, no exam. I am pending knee surgery.

I am moving on after reading reviews giving 2.5 stars/5 for Reno Family Physicians which has validated my experience.

I found Dr. Suraj Verma after reading multiple reviews while I was selecting a new primary care provider about four years ago. He was then with St. Mary’s Medical Group and I became his patient. My health conditions became complicated and complex and I even survived open-heart surgery at St. Mary’s. Because of the confidence I grew with Dr. Verma, I followed him to his new practice at Reno Family Physicians. He is the epitome of a Family Practitioner, he is professional, he is genuinely caring, friendly, he is attentive, and he listens. Dr. Verma’s Medical Assistant and back-office staff effectively coordinates my care with my specialists and other care providers. Dr. Verma’s Medical Assistant is professional, friendly, checks my vital signs, she updates my chart and reason for that day’s visit. Reno Family Physicians is a pleasant professional office with multiple providers. Dr. Verma’s receptionist has always been polite, professional and prepared to receive her next patient to… check-in. The phone calls are answered promptly by the office operator and the schedulers have been available to make appointments with ease. Even the lady in medical records is professional and efficient. Dr Verma Suraj gets a 10+ rating from me. I've had lots of doctors over my many years, but he has to be the most patient, caring, thoughtful and attentive doctor ever. He takes his time with you. You can tell he honestly cares about you and what you are saying. He is like a very good friend that shows great compassion. I would recommend him to everyone.

I was with St. Mary's Medical for ten years. Dr. Donald Ferrimond was my doctor. Ever since St. Mary's was purchased by a private company the service has been nothing less than incompetent. I was switched to Dr. Verma, who merely tells the patient what he thinks they want to hear. Nothing is ever done at this clinic. The staff NEVER returns calls and they never return calls from the pharmacy. Whenever I contact Dr. Verma's office, which is rarely, I have to literally hound them in order to get any results. Once I had to sit in their offices on Robb Drive, without an appointment, until someone agreed to give me an answer for the pharmacist to fill medication I had been taking for seven years. My advice, find another clinic that is not associated with St. Mary's.

The doctor spent all of 5 minutes on diagnosing a problem that he expended no work on. We received blood work back, and all the doctor required was an Rx for antibiotics. He miswrote the antibiotic prescription (twice), sending the pharmacy two different prescriptions and neglecting to guide us on proper administration. Later, after a significant allergic reaction, Dr Verma told us to continue with the antibiotics after a few days, rather than changing the script. On top of this, he informed us he would not see us, and referred us unnecessarily to a specialist. Doctor Verma needs to reevaluate his patient care initiatives, because based on his speaking to us, he failed in every capacity. He seemed incompetent, uncaring, bookish and unattached, and even at times pompous.

Just sharing gratitude and appreciation to those who it is due. Dr. Verma has been consistently helpful and open-minded on each of my visits. He takes the time to chat with you on a personal level and actually possesses a sense of humor/humility. He seems like a super nice guy and always helps refers me to doctors of the same caliber.

Dr. Verma takes his time and really cares about my concerns. Whether my appointment is in the morning or afternoon, I rarely wait any longer than 5 minutes...even when I'm the one running late. He's gentle and quite down-to-earth.
