Dr. Susan Colleen Hendrickson, MD

I don't get the comments on here. I have three kids. Our oldest has already graduated and we saw her for over 15 years. They were always in sports and had a lot of injuries. She is funny, personable, helps the kids relax when they are scared, and the kids love her. I have never seen her even frustrated. I don't personally know anyone as calm as her. I do see why some people might not like her. She is STRAIGHT FORWARD. When I haven't thought I needed to do something, she tells me clearly why I need to. She has also gotten some diagnoses on two of my kids (3x total) right that Emergency docs didn't get right. She is not afraid to say so, but she was kind. She just said their job is to rule out anything serious and make sure we see our primary to re-evaluate. she says they are great at what they do, but what I do is pediatrics. Once I was really concerned when I disagreed with her. I went home and talked it out with my husband and we decided to ask for a second opinion. She gave us the… referral immediately and helped us to get in sooner that their schedule would have allowed. The specialist backed her up 100%. There never were any other times I was concerned, but if I was, I would have done the same thing. Nothing is more precious to me than my kids. I really don't get the bad reviews because she is always EXCELLENT. I do kind of get their ideas, but when I was concerned, it turned out to be me that was wrong. I simply don't believe what others are saying here as I have NEVER met her behaving like others are describing. When it doesn't make sense, it must not be the truth! I'm sticking with my own experience!

My baby was born with no heart rate at all. She was present in the delivery room. I first met her when my doctor was worried about my baby. When I was in between contractions, she simply said to me: "Hi, I am the pediatrician and am just here in case your baby needs me." She didn't even tell me her name, but I felt a bit better. She was quiet at the time of the birth of my baby. I had many family members present who were actually able to stand back a bit and watch as she took care of my daughter. I remember hearing them clap when my baby cried at a few minutes of age. I then heard her tell the nurses she wanted to go to the nursery with the baby. I didn't yet know there was anything more wrong, but I had an infection and I thought she was just being careful. I later learned that she saw very minor signs of infection in my baby right at the time of birth. She took care of things immediately and later called the NICU: "just to let them know a sick baby was in the community, and to make… sure they were content with the care she was providing." At the time, everything seemed fine. My baby started to have seizures the next day. Dr. Hendrickson had been in many times before that, "just to be sure everything was still ok." After my baby started to seize, she said we needed to be transported to the NICU. When we arrived, after our baby was admitted, the NICU doctor told us that they were "very impressed" with everything Dr. Hendrickson had done and that we could not have received any better care "ANYWHERE!" My baby is now healthy. Dr. Hendrickson saved us from what could have been an entire lifetime of dreadful problems. I wish I knew how to find her and thank her in person. Dr. Hendrickson, I hope you see this someday. PLEASE accept our heart felt gratitude every day we have with our baby! Thank you is simply not enough!

She is amazing with our kids, explains things to them in ways they understand and helps us to understand their conditions better than anyone before her has. I have seen her with 5 kids more than 10 times per year (on a good year!) and I really don't understand the "one-star" reviews. I don't think I have ever seen her have a "bad day." She loves what she does and does a great job. We have had to wait if she was busy, but when we were new to the practice we were told to not worry about that because seeing her is worth the wait. Having said that, most of the time we have been seen within 15 min. Unlike other reviewers, I have been lucky and my kids have not had any serious diseases to diagnose, but she is right on target every time we do see her. The only insight I have to people not caring for her is that she will tell you (kindly) if she disagrees with you. Personally, I like that. I can't match her degree or experience with my Google searches (lol.) I would rather a doctor tell me… the truth than to rush out and say whatever they think I want to hear. I know none of this is earth-shattering, but I really have never met a doctor I like better for me or my kids. Thanks, Dr. Sue.

Unfortunately, we had to see many doctors before one listened long enough that we finally got a diagnosis and a way to treat our child. Our daughter LOVES her!

While waiting in the Dr office for two hours Dr came in crying because she had such a busy schedule then continued to tell me in front of my 5 yr old son that she was having a bad period that month. Really ???

My son was a patient of hers shortly after opening her practice in Bay City. She was patient and friendly with my very sick son with severe asthma. Dr. Sue also diagnosed him with diabetes at the age of 4. She told me of his devastating new disease without an alarming tone in her voice. I have always found her to be professional and caring. So sorry she left our area.

I have never seen a doctor that was better at figuring out what other doctors missed. Also, she teaches. When she finds something we don't know, we are better able to care for our kids. She is kind, thorough, funny and enjoyable to the kids. I can't think of anything more I would want in a pediatrician. I see comments about rudeness in this string, have known her for years and don't know anyone who thinks she is EVER rude. I think this may be coming from her desire to find those things she can teach. She does it well.

Bad doctor with attitude!

I could write a book about the things that happened during the nine months she was my daughter's pediatrician. She talked down constantly to my husband and I. She screamed at my daughter for jumping when she was given her flu shot (she was 16 months) and Dr Sue cut her arm with the needle. I have witnessed her make on of the medical assistants have to sit in a dark room and hold a little boy (looked about 2-21/2) down so he would settle down because he was scared and upset and she was not going to see him until he settled down. She told me my daughter was going to grow up a spoiled rotton brat because I told her I chose to be a stay at home mom so I could spend as much time as possible with her. I watched her scream at and reprimand her office staff in front of patients and parents on several occasions. She kicked my husband out of the office because he was wearing an ace bandage on his ankle due to a sprain and she said it interfered with her latex allergy. The extra charges… she has for billing and after hour calls is ridiculous. I would never recommend her to anyone!!!!
