When I was growing up, visits to the doctor sometimes came with a dose of confusion. Providers didn't always make time to explain things. Sometimes as a result, we didn't get the care we needed. \n I want to not just offer great care - but also communicate effectively with patients so they understand their condition and care plan. \n Since 1996, when I first went into healthcare, I've always looked at patients from a holistic viewpoint. I ask myself: How is this illness or condition affecting my patient? What can we do to help restore health or the ability to return to full function? I think the best way to improve an outcome is to find out what my patient wants out of their visit, convey options that help them reach their goal and make a joint decision as to how to reach their goals. \n I have specialty training in adults and gerontology and appreciate the chance to help senior patients achieve their health goals. \n I was honored to receive the APP (Advance Practice Provider) of the …Year award for my division at Novant Health in 2022. \n Outside work, I love to travel with family and friends. I've spent time abroad on medical missions, as well as for pleasure. My husband and I have two grown sons and several furry creatures at home. I grew up the in mountains of western North Carolina and still visit often. My family and I enjoy camping, boating, water skiing and snow skiing and most outdoor activities...if only mosquitoes weren't part of the outdoors!
