Dr. Susan Hamman Lackey, DO

This doctor should not be working with the elderly. My parents thought she was the best thing since sliced bread, but my siblings and I found her to be lacking in some very important ways. They lived about 25 miles away from me and were very independent and private, which made it hard to really get a handle on what was going on with their health. My dad started falling a lot, and when I called the doctor to express my concerns, no one would tell me anything, and kept referring me back to my parents’ senior apartment management for any information as far as meds and what might be causing the falls. That made no sense, and I found it really irritating, especially since they confirmed that there was a POA on file for me with the doctor. My parents moved to this side of town into assisted living, and the day after they moved in, I took them to have a prescription refilled for my dad. It turned out that the prescription he was trying to refill had been replaced by another one, so it… appeared that he had been double-dosing, but no idea for how long. The fact that I expressed concern about his meds to Dr. Lackey’s office, and nothing was done to check on it is deeply concerning to me. That’s something that should be common practice with the elderly, especially when they are taking more than one medication, including blood thinners! As soon as we got back to their apartment, I talked to the nurse practitioner about it, who looked at my dad’s meds, discovered that he was taking two of them incorrectly, and got him back on track, but apparently not soon enough. My dad fell the following day, broke his hip, and was dead three weeks later. Since then, I have tried numerous times to get my mom’s medical records sent over to her new doctor, which still hasn’t been done……..and it’s been six months. Also, according to my mom, Dr. Lackey was not willing to recommend a new doctor on this side of town for them. When I called at some point to see why the medical records hadn’t been sent yet, I mentioned in passing that I was taking her to a new doctor over here for XYZ condition, and next thing I knew, I got a call telling me that Dr. Lackey had called in a prescription of some sort for her………to the pharmacy on the other side of town, where they USED to live. How out of touch is that??? What part of “new doctor” did they not understand??? Anyway, if you have an elderly parent in need of a competent medical doctor, don’t take them to Dr. Lackey!!!

I had a horrible experience with this doctor. She just diagnosed me with diabetes and while I sat there in a total shock and disbelief, she proceeded pointing to the computer screen with the word GLUCOSE on it which was her way of practically dumping the new diagnosis on me. She kept telling me that my blood work has been this way since 2006 and ignored my pleas when I tried to tell her that I had no idea; no one ever told me. She kept repeating the word 'diabetes' and was loud and overbearing. She has demonstrated a total lack of compassion and understanding, the very qualities that are supposed to be integral to her profession. The questions like 'why me' were racing through my head, and naturally I was in denial which later on the Diabetic Educator told me was normal. Apparently Dr Lackey can't comprehend that. Which is exactly why she is my FORMER doctor. NEVER AGAIN. A fine example of the Cleveland Clinic ' everyone deserves world class care ' as they proclaim in… their paid advertisements. For your own sanity, see someone else. I AM DONE HERE.

Dr Lackey was my mentor when I first started my out rotations.What a great teacher & person,thanks for your time and expertise .

She has an un-arming office demeanor and is easy to talk to. Very thorough and does not speak "Dr Talk". She uses the resources available to her very effectively and really just a nice person!
