Dr. Susan Eades Mackey, MD

Dr Mackey is one of the kindest, most caring, most competent doctors I’ve ever been to. She has been my obgyn for 20+ years. She was with another practice when I first began seeing her, and when she moved to WMA I followed her. Her nurse Melody is also kind and competent. She has squeezed in appointments for me when the front desk couldn’t and she has intervened in a billing situation that I was having trouble with even though that was definitely NOT part of her job description. I wasn’t supposed to be able to have children due to a medical condition but I had a surprise pregnancy 6 years ago - obviously high-risk due to that condition plus diabetes, and she was superb in her treatment, monitoring, and genuine concern throughout the pregnancy. I was hospitalized unexpectedly at 32 weeks, induced at 34, and the entire experience was amazing. Another doctor in the practice was actually on call for the delivery, but Dr Mackey insisted on doing it herself and was so fabulously supportive… throughout the entire laboring and delivery process. I was so comforted and never felt alone with her constant care throughought that entire 7-1/2 months. A few months following delivery it was discovered I had uterine polyps and part of the placenta left, so she did a D&C to eliminate those, and the staff members in the surgical area were so happy that she was the dr they were working with that day because of her amazing personality, knowledge, and expertise. Put me right at ease and she was as wonderful there and during post-op care as she had been during the pregnancy and delivery. Don’t look any further - Dr Mackey is the best!

I have been to Dr. Mackey as a new patient and EVERY time I have waited 45 min - 1 hour to even be called back and then another 30 min to be seen. Not all women are stay at home moms with no job. I can’t afford to miss an entire day of work for a Pap smear. The first Pap smear came back “in-conclusive” so I had to return and wait AGAIN for hours!

Dr. Mackey truly cares for her patients and Melody is AMAZING too! They both take time to make you feel welcomed and they actually care about your concerns and questions if you have any. If I ever move, I will still come to Dr. Mackey! Love her!!

I've been going to Dr Mackey since 1997 and have had nothing but good experiences. She is always willing to discuss whatever I need to and is good at sharing information in a caring and calm manner. When a situation arose with me where a hysterectomy would be one option, my first choice was to go a less invasive route and she sent me to a laparascopic specialist. I have been very happy as her patient.

Dr. Mackey seems very competent, technically, but I had two separate, negative incidents that have led me to seek another obgyn. The first was the disparaging remarks she made about my decision to use nfp (you can't turn around in the office without being bombarded with birth control infomercials - even in the exam room). The second occurred when we had some potentially troubling news from an ultrasound. She seemed very uncomfortable and it made an already stressful situation worse. Again, she seemed perfectly good at the technical aspects of her job, but I think I can find a better fit for me and my family.

Dr. Mackey has been my OB/Gyn for 12 years. She is smart, compassionate, sensitive and a fantastic OB/GYN! I have, and will continue to recommend her to any woman seeking the highest quality care.
