Susan Pike, MD

My experience with Dr. Susan Pike, which I found to be deeply unprofessional, distressing, and unacceptable. Prior to my scheduled surgery, I attended two pre-operative appointments and took time off work to prepare. I was not fully informed about the medications prescribed for the procedure. Based on my understanding and professional background as a nurse practitioner, I did not feel comfortable taking certain medications. On the day of surgery, after I had already been admitted, changed into a patient gown, placed on a stretcher, and had IV fluids initiated, Dr. Pike entered the room and abruptly informed me, “your surgery is canceled.” There was no appropriate discussion, explanation, or attempt at collaborative decision-making. She did not acknowledge my husband, who was present, and her tone felt dismissive and disrespectful. I was particularly concerned to later learn that she documented in my medical record that I am a “poorly controlled diabetic.” This is factually incorrect.… My most recent hemoglobin A1C was 5.8%, and my fasting glucose was 86 mg/dL—values that do not support such a diagnosis. This type of inaccurate documentation is not only misleading but potentially harmful to my future medical care. The overall interaction made me feel judged, disrespected, and bullied. Regardless of clinical decisions, patients deserve to be treated with dignity, clear communication, and professionalism. If there were concerns that would lead to cancellation, they should have been addressed well in advance—not at the final moment after full surgical preparation. This experience was emotionally distressing and a significant misuse of my time and trust.

Dr. Pike is a gifted, skilled and excellent surgeon. I am extremely grateful to her for her expertise and well thought out plan regarding my care. Dr. Pike is also very compassionate and treats her ancillary staff with respect, I admire that.

I am really displeased by the level of service I received from Dr. Pike. At first things were good, but there was a lot of back and forth with her office staff as they weren’t calling me back, scheduling appts etc. The military was paying for my surgery so i didn’t have much of a choice on the doctor, but needless to say i still continued with the process. I received reconstructive surgery from this doctor, but it was very hard to be scheduled for follow ups right after. My incisions are horrible and she suggested she would fix it, but again never got back to me. I had a lot of pain and went to see her about it and she basically denied my pain and said I was “pill seeking”, making me very upset, uncomfortable, and never checked in with me again after the follow up. I do not recommend her. I am a woman of color and I didn’t like my experience with her and her office staff.

Dr. Pike accidentally sewed a tube in me and I had to pay $1,000 to get emergency surgery for her to remove it (I paid &1,000 for her mistake). My nipples are extremely high and unnatural. They come out of my bras all the time and I can’t wear most of my clothing that I loved before. She’s had to do two paid corrective surgeries as well. When I asked her about fixing my breast she quoted a price higher than the original augmentation. All in all, I really like her and her staff. They are really sweet people, but I feel just as insecure and spent a couple of thousand more than planned on emergency and corrective surgery from mistakes made. I’m now saving up to get another breast aug surgery to fix unnaturally high nipples. I wish I’d done more research, but you just never know and everyone has a few bad ratings. Plus, I had a few friends use her and they are happy with their results. She also said that she’s never “accidentally “ stitched a tube in someone before. ??
